Verizon 55 Plus Plan

If you are 55 years old and older and a Florida resident, Verizon just announced their 55 Plus Plan. If you have two lines, you get unlimited data, talk, and text, no throttling, in the US, Mexico and Canada for $40 per line a month. I just converted our Verizon plan to this and saved a good bit, plus we have unlimited data now.

That means a deal-breaker for me.

Tethering is still allowed but not MiFi type devices. There is a limit of 200 MB while roaming!!! Yikes!!!
Not at all sure what this means........

Tethering at max 3G. Service may be terminated or restricted for excessive roaming. For the small fraction of customers using more than 50GB per month, primary data usage must be on smartphone or tablet. Smartphone and tablet usage is prioritized over Mobile Hotspot Service (tethering) usage, which may result in higher speeds for data used on smartphones and tablets.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

I did a little research and it appears they have upped the price of the senior plan by ten dollars, which makes it $70 a month on T Mobile 2 devices. Two devices and that price is guaranteed for life but it needs to be on autopay. Tethering essentially breaks the plan it seems.

I am a bit fuzzy about the specific numbers as the sales person went through the differences pretty quickly. It's $10/month extra to use the phone as a hotspot/tether but that gave you either 3G speeds or something like a 22GB limit and then 3G (or less). If you added the $25/month plan you got full 4G fully unlimited data usage. He showed me his phone and he had used over 125G so far that month.

I have been told by T-Mobile here in VA that it's $60. Period! There is the added $10/month per line tether plan but that unlimited is still somewhat limited. There is also a $25/line add on for full unlimited unlimited tethering.

Could you be more specific about how the T-Mobile 55+ Unlimited plan is somewhat limited? That is the plan I have and I am interested.

The T Mobile plan is unlimited everything for a flat 60 per month with 2 devices. No additional fees. When T Mobile introduced this plan 865,000 Verizon customers switched to T Mobile. Verizon had to respond with something, but they never really match T Mobile. Another thing I like about it is I just keep wifi off now so I don't have to do the "join the network" thing.

there is a data point at which you might be slowed down if the tower is busy/congested

i think 22gig for phone, is the number that has been stated

10gig for devices tethered cable/wifi using the phone for their data connection
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

Well Thanks to djsamuel,

I went by BJ's club this evening and switched over from ATT, to the Verizon 55 plus plan, will save us over $60 a month. Thanks for the heads up.

BUT, if you are thinking of this Verizon plan you might want to hurry, the young man at BJ's said tomorrow is the last day to sign up for it, I don't know if it is over only at BJ's or Verizon wide but if it is on your radar tomorrow is last day.

And he waived all fees for switching and we left with zero dollars out of pocket and 2 $150 master card gift cards coming, and there is some kind of military discount too but I didn't catch what that does, will have to ask the wife.

And now on top of the savings I can hotspot from our phones now for no more dollars, this worked out great, Thanks again djsamuel,

Keith

The T-Mobile plan is supposed to be $60/month for 2 lines. What is the added $20?

Government mandated taxes and fees. For example there is a 9-1-1 surcharge, intended to be paid to the 9-1-1 service centers to help them cover the cost of "Enhanced 9-1-1" (Which can read your phone's GPS even if it's turned off).. Of course the center I worked in I never could get the boss to upgrade to Enhanced I do not think they have yet so that money is just sitting in an account somewhere.

Taxes (Sales tax alone is 6% in Michigan) and other taxes and fees.

Check Google Fi to see if it works for you. Only catch is you have to have a Google phone but my bill averages about $25/mo instead of the 60 from Verizon. Coverage is great, haven't had a problem anywhere.

Think the $60 is for the data and 1 device, and extra 20 is for the second device.

Couldn't find the answer at the Verizon website without jumping through hoops, but I know I pay a device fee to ATT of $20.

You are correct regarding Verizon. You still have to pay the additional fees and taxes like you normally would. I'm still saving about $40 a month over my previous 2 line 8 gig plan and now I have unlimited data. T-Mobile does advertise that there 55+ plan is all inclusive, no additional charges but I never verified it. I live in a rural area and had to get rid of T-Mobile when I moved here due to reception issues, so I wanted to stay with Verizon.

I can verify it. DW and I have the T-Mobile 55+ plan. It is $60 for 2 lines. If you want to tether the phone to the laptop, it is an additional $10/phone/month. We tether, so our bill is exactly $80/month, unlimited everything.

isn't ATT dominate on the east coast

i would guess that vzw is trying to increase their market share, with those likely to use less mobile data, by making an attractive offer, the 55+ seniors are more likley to use GPS and not stream movies on the phone
it could be test/pilot plan, if it works out the way vzw wants
they might expand it to other areas
VZW is dominate here in the west, i don't think they will bring it to calif

West Coast of Florida is pretty much from the midwest.
