What's with the Win7 updates?

I've had important updates listed on my one Win7 (virtual) machine every day since update Tuesday- updates Wednesday, Thursday and Friday- what's with that?
I can hardly wait to boot my laptop in to Windows- it's been around 6 months, should be a couple of hours updating ๐Ÿ™‚

Update Tuesday included 2 updates requiring a restart. On Tuesday if you did not go back and check "update" for the left-over update requiring a restart you most likely saw it on Wed. Three days included "Windows Defender", and a extra Windows update. Since I run both Norton and W.D. (no problem for a gaming lap-top), I see about 3 days per week of W.D. updates. Then again Norton updates 3 to 4 times each day.

While I never allow auto-updating I actually check every day at least once.

With all the hacking going on each day, anyone who does not down-load all updates is just asking for trouble.

I have yet to find *anyone* who likes Windows 8/8.1 enough to bother learning navigation all over again.

That's interesting- they list the end of sales for Windows 7 as being October 31, 2013, yet you can still buy it for the same price as 8.1, plus they give no end date for preinstalled versions- no surprise given the lack of love by businesses for 8.1.

The only things I have on the Win7 install is Magnifinder (an RV parts application), iTunes, Turbo Tax and Adobe acrobat reader- I did have it on 2 20gb drives, but had to resize them to 2 40gb drives when I installed iTunes.
Magnifinder does use a lot of .NET stuff, so a bunch of the security stuff is, I believe, for that. Adobe and Apple update their own applications.

One thing that drives me crazy is having the update install, Windows tells me it has to restart, I click "Restart Now", it fades out and says "The Following application is keeping Windows from restarting: Windows Update. Click to cancel or force restart."

D'ohh!

FWIW- I'm used to updating- my other computers update nearly every day, as I use a testing branch of my OS. It's just easier to do on them, and nearly never need a reboot ๐Ÿ˜‰

I better get on it, don't want to be left with unsupported OS. LOL

Turn auto updates off. Get them when you want to.

Not seeing many updates here, on Win 7 Ultimate.
Had 9 in December and 7 in January (six important and one recommended).

I tend to not update the Windows Malicious Software Removal tool because it takes forever to run through. I guess it might be the four hard drives (two internal and 2 external). It doesn't seem to do well with Terabytes of data.

The only computer I have running Windows 7 is a laptop that is used only occasionally. It has not been turned on for over a month. That being the case it is not unusual that when I do use it there are several updates. I just checked with it and it has 23 that are installing as I type. Something to note is that not all updates from MS are to the operating system. Some of those updates are often for other MS programs so really depends on what is installed on the machine.

I agree! With all the junk going on in the internet world, if they have a patch to fix a hack or whatever, update me!

I have 14 updates in the last 7 days. about half are just virus definition update but the rest are 'real' updates and all but one for "security". Maybe they found something out form the Sony hacks .....?

I just looked, and have had 9 separate important security updates over the past three days, 5 on Tuesday, 1 on Wednesday and 3 today, 2 recommended, and a slew of optional (as always).
