Win 7 vs Win 10 – Upgrade vs Spying.

My computer works well with Win 7; however, I keep getting popups telling me to upgrade to Win 10 for free. Each time I ask myself “Self, why is MS giving away Win 10 when they could charge $$$ for it.” I could understand a “warranty” issue because of the problems with Win 8.1, but not with Win 7. I did a search on the internet and found that Win 10 allows MS to spy everything you do on your computer. One web page At first I could not believe it. So I spent almost a week reading up on the issue. Now I believe it. Not only does Win 10 spy on you, but so does Google. This explains how Google knows to popup a small advertisement for an item I search for a few weeks ago when I am looking at something different.

OK so Win 10 spies on user, what about Win 7? From what I have read, Win 7 cannot spy as easy as Win 10. So how to turn of the auto-update to Win 10. How to stop spy I suggest you check out a program call GWX Control Panel. One place to download GMX This program will allow you to get update to Win 7, but not download Win 10.


To turn off Google spying on you check out these two Google add-in Ghostery and uBlock.

Now that I can update Win 7 without Win 10 downloading at the some time, I am staying with Win 7 for a year or two more. Maybe MS will release a version Win 11 without spy-ware.

If Win 7 is fulfilling all your needs then you do not need to update. If Win 10 offers a function or functions you need that is a different story.
Me, I am sticking with what I have. My laptop has Win 8 and my wife's has Win 7.

What operating system isn't free? Have you ever heard of paying for a new version of Android or IOS? Linux has been free for decades. Microsoft is just catching up to everyone else. They are free because the more users they have using their system the more dominance in the market and that is just one of many reasons to give away software. There are laws requiring every internet\email, telephone provider or any kind of communication or electronic interaction be available for the government to spy on you. My last company made the software to do it. If you are worried about Windows 10 than you better never go on the internet again, send an email, or call someone on the phone either or like the previous post said use a credit card.

If you are concerned about spying, then cut up your credit cards, never use a store loyalty card again, and stop using the Internet all together.

I worked in the Direct Mail Marketing industry (READ: Junk mail) for 15 years. Marketing departments have been gathering data on us since at least the '20s. Gathering data became a science long before Google and Microsoft were on the scene.

The "spy" features in Windows 10 ca be turned off. Your research findings should have made that clear.

As far as the benefits of upgrading... I don't know. I am holding off updating my three Windows 7 computers until just shy of the free period ending. Things should be pretty clear by then.
