My Winegard Rt8000S will not lock on a signal. After troubleshooting with both Dish and Winegard, Winegard says the unit is not pulling enough amps. We have used a battery and powered it up right at the dome to rule out any wiring issues. Winegard wants me to ship the unit to them, there is a $70.00 estimate fee and repairs may be around $300.00. I am a few months out of warranty. I don't want to spend $400.00 on a unit that isn't even 3 years old. Anyone had this problem or know of another GOOD repair shop.

Save money and buy a tripod and a dish. That setup will allow you to work around trees or other obstructions that can stymie a roof mounted unit.

I may be paranoid, but it seems to me that when something fails, it's usually after the warranty runs out.

Personally i would take it apart and buy a new, LNB and install that first.
