Today for the second time in two weeks Chrome has locked up with this worm. Message states call this number for microsoft help. Yea, sure, going to do that! Running paid AVG and malwarebytes premium and nothing found on the computer. It happened both times looking at Zillow site for homes for sale. Both times have reset Chrome settings. I ran an Adcleaner as suggested by malwarebytes both times. Shut computer down and restarted both times. Afraid to search sites looking for more answers! Thanks,

Does the "Worm" give you the phone number to call. and is it REALLY microsoft's?

One type of "Malware" now days is nothing more than a web page.. Technically it might be called Ransomware but I'm not sure.

It is just a web page. It is NOT on your computer save for what you see. What it does is disable most of your keyboard and mouse, so you can't close it, can't get rid of it, by NORMAL means... Now in some cases I have been able to crash the browser (Exit by means other than the "X") eithe via task manager or some other means.. I've also forced a shut down to get past of it.. The computer ALWAYS passes all scans including a deep scan.. So I'm convinced that it is just a web page.

How to force a shut down method one: Sit on the POWER button for like 30 seconds to a minute

Method 2q: Desktop.. PULL PLUG
Method 2B. Laptop with removable battery.. Remove battery and power cord.

The anti-virus programs and such don't alert you to the problem because it is just an open web page. No attack, no virus. Close the page, restart Chrome and you're basically good to go.

Basically, it's a fake warning - "Clear your temporary internet files and reboot." <-- is the solution

Don't know enough to say don't have the worm. Just concerned if something is now on computer lurking in the background. I didn't click OK and did shut the computer down. Wondering why these antivirus programs don't warn or stop these things. You guys always offer better advice than other sites or antivirus help. Difficult to believe Zillow which supposedly is a well known site is allowing this. Or, maybe it is beyond their control.
Several people in the area are reporting this "worm". So be aware!

thats all a scam
shut down reboot, do not reopen that browser window

switch to FF with adBlock
or quit visiting the offending site

Those lock-up ads do nothing more than lockup the browser, unless, of course, you click the OK button. Do a force quit on the browser and do not allow it to reopen sites when restarting the browser, and you should be fine.

Some of those sites don't do much checking to see if the ads that run on their sites are relatively harmless. They're in it to make as much money as they can before the site flames out, so the more ads the better in their eyes.

It sounds like a web pop-up, so you should be able to shut down Chrome and be fine.

Mine is XP and I know next to nothing about pooters but I have had good luck keeping it going with Wise registry cleaner (free) , CC Cleaner and Defraggler. I have no idea if that will help you but just mentioning.
