I am a proud owner of a F-150 and need to put install controllers, is this fairly straight forward? I already have the electrical in the back but just need to purchase the device. Could I purchase the device on Amazon and have a local RV company install it? or should I just have the RV place take care of the purchasing and install? Any good brands? Could I install the device myself?Thank you and I will have many follow questions to come!
Pridigy P3 is a good controller. I moved the Prodigy P1 I had into the F150. I just checked 3 times and spliced the harnesses together (a plug 'n play cable is much easier.) There were directions over on the F150 forum on how to take the dash apart to mount the controller in the stock location, YouTube probably has a few videos also.

IF you have the 7 pin at the back on the bumper. Then the wires for the brake controller are under the dash. Also. The wiring harness to attach the controller to the plug under the dash should be in the console, or the glove box, or in the jack compartment, along with a relay to put into the fuse box to activate the charger wire.

Since 1997 Ford has made it installing an electric brake controller relatively easy. I installed one in my 2003 F-150 in under 10 minutes. I recommend the Tekonsha P2 and vehicle specific wiring harness for under $150 total. You may need some relays in the distribution box as well. Etrailer offers reasonable prices and great customer support for the products they sell.

What year F-150? Beyond newer trucks that have the controller installed, there were trucks that have the controller wiring either with a connector or bundled under the dash for easy installation.
If you search through the Tekonsha website (makers of the Prodigy brand of controller and supplier of connecting hardware), installation instructions will be listed. It's a fairly easy installation if you have experience with wiring. If not, any auto or truck repair shop can install the controller.
If you are somewhat handy it's relatively easy to install a brake controller...
Buy a controller (I like Prodigy) and order a wiring harness that is specific to your truck..
Consider going with etrailer. They will have everything you need and have a great customer service outfit that can help you. They also have videos on their site that show how to install a brake controller..
