drinking water

What do most of you do for drinking water in your RV's? We don't like the idea of drinking the water that has been sitting around in our fresh water tank, so we've kept containers of drinking water in the sinks while we travel and on the counter when we're parked. That's getting to be a nuisance, though. We've seen lots of filters for the water coming in, but then it would still sit in the tank.

We start our trips filling our fresh tanks at home with a filter on the hose. We also have a filter on the sink faucet. We use the water in about 4 to 5 days and then refill at the campground - again with a filter on the hose. The water tastes fine and there have been no problems. We empty the fresh tank when we get home. When we de-winterize in the Spring the fresh tank is sanitized.

Wow - in 20 years of using our several different fivers and more lately a MH we almost always have used the cg water as it comes from the faucet - assuming we have a water hookup. If not we drink/use the water as it comes from our storage tank! Nope - never been sick while Rving!! Some folks are paranoid and I guess some are lucky??

I have a portable water treatment system I keep for dedicated use in the RV.
It is a countertop model with a hose and attachement that threads onto a standard tap spigot strainer.

It has a little button to pull when you want filtered water.

Bit of a nuisance with the hoses and unit on the counter, but it is small.

Works like a charm.

I won't drink the water out of my holding tank either. You never know whats in the water from whatever source I find to fill it.

I buy it enroute, fill gallon jugs from CG supply when there. Tank water smells funny.

We have a filter on the incoming water and a sink filter in the kitchen. In 16+ years of full-timing we have always used the water from our tank. We don't buy water. I can't imagine how much money we would have spent if we did buy water!

We carry a case of individual water bottles.

Have a filter at the hose hookup but don't count on that for making the water drinkable.

Sanitize the water system every spring and drink straight from the faucet thereafter.

My filter is after the tank, so even after it's left the tank, it's filtered.

We will use our Pure water filter container and may take a case of bottled water but most likely will be ok with the Pure.

How do the containers you keep on the counter differ from the container built into your RV? Other than the size? We sanitize our onboard fresh water tank periodically, and have never had a problem drinking from it. We do filter the water we put in it, unless we're familiar with the source.
