I am looking to build a custom home and at some point would like to get an RV and start seeing the country. I want put on an side entry rv garage and need to know what kind of room is needed to turn the 90 degrees to get into the garage.
Thanks for any help!!

It would be a 34 to 36 footer, not sure of make yet. The one I like is a 2017 Holiday Rambler Vacationer 36H

Building in Goodyear, AZ

PS Thanks for all the feedback so far!

Have a talk with a local designer. They would know all the ins and outs, and zoning. Plus (hopefully) have the experience.

Oddly it's on the end of the house that will totally block their view of the golf course. No, our house is not on the golf course :).

a pull thru garage. perfect.

I would say you want it at least a 1/3 longer than the RV.

Not real sure about an RV but I can tell you that I have 50 feet between our house garage (with the doors facing the RV garage) and RV garage and it takes all of it to put the Ram 2500 in the garage. So my guess is at least twice the length of the RV apart.

Something else to consider is the clear height inside the garage. It's helpful to be able to stand up on the roof for maintenance etc. My MH is 12'-6" high with roof antennas etc. I'd put in a 14' high door for that height. Do you plan to pull in forward or backward, tail-swing can cut quite a swath in your turning radius and approach. Can you allow for a hammerhead approach to ease your entry/exit?

I have designed many RV garages over the years. Let us know what you are considering for your RV so we can provide some useful dimensions. My 35' Class A has a much tighter turning radius that my former 28' Class C.

As some anecdotal evidence, I have a detached garage that I park my TV in. My fiver is a '04 Carriage 30RLS. I enough room to back the fiver around my work shop and would be able to back it into the parking garage. If the garage was tall enough.

In terms of driveway, I have about 45-50ft in front and about 60ft wide. I don't have enough room to turn around but can back into the area. But I live in rural community and have room, as drmopar has said check local codes for any restrictions you may have. Look at max area allowed for your garage, distance from property lines, as well as max height restrictions.

for ideas on RV garages, do a visual check of Lake Whitney estates. I considered buying there once.

Where are you building you new home? Different Building codes/requirements for a specific area.

Think about the length of the Motor Home at least, as a guide. Unless you build a double wide door, you will need a straight shot to pull in. Most MHs will do a u-turn in about 3-4 times their width, depending on the chassis Look at a few MH spec sheets for the turning radius

It will help if you tell us the type and size of RV you will be buying.
