I'm Intrested in jayco x23f model which is dry weight of 4170 and hitch weight of 455lbs. I have a 2013 chevy tahoe LT model towing capacity of 5200 lbs and payload capacity of 1450lbs. Would I be able to tow this trailer properly? Thanks in advanced.

Where did you get your tow capacity rating? 5200 lb with the Z82 towing package seems like a pretty light rating. Is there a rating listed with a WDH and a listing without a WDH? I know my Suburban rating change with or without a WDH.

I called chevy manufacturer

What size engine?

What does the yellow door sticker show for trailer capacity?

As stated above, that seems low for a Tahoe. My 2005 Yukon says 6900 as max tow.

Yellow sticker does not show towing capacity.....only curb weights ect. If I add a transmission cooler would increase towing capacity?

If I pack the trailer light? Would that keep me under and help? My trips would be short mostly local.

You need to find out why your Tahoe is rated so low.
I assume it's because you didn't get it with tne factory tow package, because those Tahoes that do, can tow at least 7000lbs.

If you duplicate the factory tow package, you should be able to tow it.
the hardest thing will be that you will probably have to change the rear end gearing.

Actually, the GVWR of the trailer is nowhere near as important, IMO, as the ACTUAL weight of the trailer as loaded and ready for use....
Very true. I tend to use GVWR as a weight that should never be exceeded as compaired to dry weight which nobody will ever see in actual use. If people need to look at just ONE number then GVWR would be that number. Everyone should go to a scale and find the ACTUAL loaded weight.

Example: My TT has a GVWR of 5500 pounds and so called dry weight of about 4300 pounds but loaded it hits the scale at 5000 pounds ready to travel but minus some food and bottles of water which could bring it to 5100 pounds.

Tow ratings for 2009+ GM SUVs are low 5000 pound range, high 5000, or near 8000 depending on options and equipment. They all come with the same receiver with 1000 pound rating and 7-pin wiring. The frame is the same. Same 5.3L V8 and 6-spd trans. The springs, tires, maybe shocks are the same. The difference is axle ratio (low 5000 to high 5000 pound tow ratings) and the HD trailering equipment package (high 5000 to 8000). Start by verifying what equipment you have. Open the glove box and find RPO sticker with as built equipment. It looks like this:

You will have either GU4 (3.08 axle) or GU6 (3.42 axle). You may have Z82 (HD Trailering Package) or not. From that, you can determine your actual tow rating.

The big one is the Z82, and specifically included with it is the upgraded transmission cooler which I believe is very important to towing any high walled trailer. Should yours not have that, they can be added by a competent transmission shop for under $500. The main part itself is about $50. I would not worry much about the difference between 3.08 axle and 3.42. The 6-spd transmission really helps compared to trucks from 10 years ago. Use tow/haul mode and M4 to prevent the truck's engine from getting bogged down and shifting too frequently.

Is there anything I could do to my tv to make it more beefy?
Chances are "YES", if you change the axle ratio to 4.10 chances are the max. trailer towing rating will change to 6200 lbs. Check the Owner's Manual. Is that what you mean by more beefy?

You have a full size suv. That trailer is fine. Find out why the low tow rating on the Tahoe though. May need to install a better trailer hitch on it and possibly an addl trAns cooler if you're going to be working it hard.
