Long Hauls and Restroom Breaks

Hi,

When I hit the road in my car, it seems I spend a lot of time pulling over to use a gas station restroom

Seems in an RV this would really slow down progress if you are trying to make tracks, plus it's not as easy to get off and on with a bigger rig

I read a comment somewhere about a guy that swaps the driver seat with his wife while going down the road. Is this common? Seems dangerous to me.

How do you guys deal with having to take a leak and not having to stop every 50/75 miles?

Prior to departure everyone goes potty (dog included) then within an hour of travel it's "We'll be needing the next rest stop" and if it is more then 10 mins away "We'll be needing the next spot"

So come rest stop, exit, wide---wide shoulder it's pull off and stop.

5vr bathroom is used, dog goes pee and we're back on our way.....10 mins top

Repeat as necessary.

I refuse to pee in a bottle or have anyone else do so.
Every trip as a kid was done that way and for what an extra 10 mins on the road.

Stop 3X and that is what..........30 extra mins/30 miles less
BIG DEAL.

And swapping drivers while in motion...that was a stupid stunt we did as teenagers----NOT grown fully functioning self-thinking adults :S

And as mentioned several times.........

Go see a doctor and get checked out. Exam and blood work
You are peeing way too frequently for a REASON
Is it time for your medication or mine?

You really need to get a check up! Sounds a lot like the beginnings of Stage II diabetes, or a prostate problem. I would be betting on the Diabetes. Have you had you blood sugar or A1C checked. Its an easy test, just a tiny finger stick. And if it is, a few minor life changes now can prevent a lot of major problems later. And not long later either. BTW, That is the reason we are self-contained. Just a quick stop at a wide spot on the road, and then rolling again.

we stop every three hours (or more often if necessary) whether we need to or not. Part of our 3/3/3 rule.

I'd rather use my porta potty on wheels than a gas station or rest area, but really enjoy car trips with no trailer.

That practice is not just dangerous, it is insane .... extremely dangerous. It is NOT common, but apparently does have a few proponents on the forums who claim to have done this.

Yep, it's like some who brag that they tow their RV at 85+ MPH. I guess RVing is a race to some..
That's why I like to travel the side roads, I can slow down and see America. 🙂

That's just asking for trouble.
I don't see any difficulty pulling off the road to use the toilet. All you need is a wide spot. I think it's quicker.
And, you don't need to find a rest stop, gas station, etc..

At most it takes you 2 minutes to slow to a stop, switch drivers and get back up to speed. Does swapping drivers while maintaining speed really count as an acceptable risk?

We get to go maybe 200 mi between stops, and we take the opportunity to walk around a bit, which makes getting back into the driver's seat easier.

Had your prostate checked lately? Maybe you're overdosing on coffee.

I carry a pee cup. Pull off anywhere you're alone, pee, dump, go.
