making 12 volt connections better

12 volt connections... in your opinion what is the best?

In the past I've used these linked below. Is there anything that makes a good connection and is removable?

I knew the brake wiring on my new utility trailer was undersized so I thought I would look a little closer before I run a 12 G blue wire from the 7 way harness back. Another problem is that they used a cheap 7 way cord that is 16 G.



They did use heat shrink....

Yes; Weatherpack connectors.

We use them on race cars and I will not use anything else now. They are the best. Yes, they are expensive but they also won't come apart and they are water proof.

I use butt/bullet connectors and put heat shrink tubing around them. If I need to take them apart I slit the heat shrink and pull them apart.

Either use non-insulated splices/terminals and a separate piece heat shrink or splices/terminals that have shrinkable insulation.

Done correctly a crimped connection is just as good and some way netter than solder.

If you are running new wire, use "marine", pre-tinned wire. This greatly reduces corrosion.

I just finished a 1300 mile tow of my car. Which hasd a lube pump. about 500 miles into the tow the pump alarm went off. I was only a few miles from Parked so I fired up the car's engine to pump the fluid and finished the trip

There have been a few issues with this pump. The original pump failed. so it was repalced. this one blows fuses. So I tried a circuit breaker, Promptly blew the controller.. I should have de-engineered further on the controller and found if I could just beef up what failed but alas. I did not.

So I added a relay The power to the relay contacts is tapped into the power to the controller line with FOUR, count them FOUR "Stocth lock" type connectors ALL FOUR FAILED

now spliced and soldered SOLID.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.
2005 Damon Intruder 377 Alas declared a total loss
after a semi "nicked" it. Still have the radios
Kenwood TS-2000, ICOM ID-5100, ID-51A+2, ID-880 REF030C most times

for "severe" use I use the type that have a heat activated adhesive on the inside.

On the house part of RV (not under the hood of vehicles) I have several projects that I've dabbed on some Die elec grease and screwed on one of these (top pic on right) and a drop of removable thread locker. None have come loose and 12 volt at each end. About 15-20 thousand bouncing down the road. All 12 volt, projects were overhead fan, light, speaker.

But under the hood...I have special Bosh wire tool set (fancy screw driver looking things) and spend the bucks for these types of connectors.

A few years ago I got involved with the operations of a small town government.
To turn the flashing yellow lights on one of the plow trucks, the driver had to twist two wires together. They had been doing it for years and thought it was normal.
I brought them into the late 19th century by adding a switch.

It's just a (cheap) option for connecting wires I thought I would share. :B
