All RVs have a switch to turn the water heater on and off.

Not all water heaters include an electric heating element. If yours does there is a separate switch for it.

All water heaters require 12v electric power to run the control board.

Turn ours on in the morning with Gen start for coffee, then off with Gen off. The water stays nice and warm for washing the cold hands. Thenon again in the evening if the Gen is run again. If its a quick getaway in the morning for showers the the gas on too and shower before coffee is done. I even turn off most of the time overnight when hooked up, the house is a whole different story from an RV, I didn't just bounce the house around for 300 miles before bed. I turn off the water pump at night too if I remember and when we leave the RV for the day, mabe I'm old and pair i noid but I have set things for safety and it WORKS FOR ME.

That's a good point; however, personally I might take more control of my home water heater if there was a convenient on/off switch located right at the door like in my camper. I make an effort to adjust the home furnace/air con if I know the house will be unoccupied for the day. The thermostat is located for convenient access. But the home water heater controls are downstairs in the utility room.

Just leave the **** thing on, enjoy hot water when you want it without having to wait to warm up, and fill the propane bottles when they are empty. Gees!

If you boondock for long periods of time, then turn it off when not using it. It doesn't need to heat all day long if you're not there. That wastes propane. Even when off the water stays warm for a long time.

Do you turn off your water heater at your house when "not using it"? If you do not, then you are somewhat at odds with yourself.

I turn mine on whenever my wife reminds me to lol. Sometimes right when we get to the campsite, sometimes right before we take showers

I dont really worry about it. Winter is the only time i ever take warm/hot showers

We strictly boondock. I leave the water heater on all day but usually turn it off at night so it doesn't wake the kids when it fires up (it is located right under their bed). It will keep water piping hot for many hours when left off, usually the water is still hot to the touch first thing in the morning.

We turn ours on prior to a planned shower or dishes and turn it off when hot. Just part of our campin' process, not to save pennies. I can still have warm water in the morning while turned off all night.

My water heater stays on all of the time when using propane or electric hookup. I'm trying to relax when camping. I don't want to think about the water heater being on or off.

Mine is gas only and I turn it off except for showering. DW saves the dishes until shower time.
