Tow haul must isn't a "must use it every time you tow" feature.
It changes the shift points of the transmission, holding each gear longer.
Try it and see what suits your driving style.
I don't always use it when towing or hauling heavy.
But you’re comparing apples and oranges.
Although, the T/H in the 4L60 is “dumb” by current standards and certainly different than an Alli trans.
To the OP yes it will raise shift points. (“Both” of them, lol, but it doesn’t do squat for sensing when to downshift earlier.) And when accelerating with a trailer hooked up, the trans will shift later even not in TH mode.
IMO it’s actually more useful when not towing to keep the eco minded slush box from upshifting “early.”
But it doesn’t hurt to use TH. In the event you are accelerating very slowly it will hold a gear a bit longer and give you a slightly warm and fuzzy feeling.
