A tale of woe.

I posted twice about this before but the story gets more interesting.
Back in June,we ordered a new Keystone Cougar 24wrks Trailer from Camping World in Harrisburg,Pa.We were quoted a price of $24,440.00 and sent them a check for 10% down.

When we ordered it,we told the salesman we were hoping to have it by the end of August and he said that should be doable.A few weeks later,he said he got an offline date of September 5th, but that he was confident they could switch the date with another dealer slot so we could still have the trailer by the end of August.

So the end of August comes and I e-mail him and he said it wasn't there, but the September 5th date was still good.So I e-mail him after September 5th and he said it's done and it's labeled a hot ship and would be there in a week.3 weeks go by and no trailer so I call the general manager. He said he'd get back to me the next day which was a Friday.Tuesday,he still hadn't called back so I call him again. He said he still didn't have an answer. He then called back the next day and said it was set up to ship and would be in September 29th.

Apparently the salesman never set up the unit to ship. The earliest we could pick in up was October 6th.So we get there and even though they had it for a week, they didn't have it checked out.So we sit there an hour and they take us for a walk through. Then we go in to pay the balance and they say the balance is $29,000.00!

We tell them we were quoted a price of $24,440.00 and produced the e-mail with the quote. They get the salesman and he said he figured in a trade in.We told him right off the bat that we sold our old one and there would be no trade. So he comes back in with a paper that shows the price with the trade which we had never seen.I tell him he never sent that to us and told him there was no trade when we ordered it.

So then he goes to the manager and comes back and says, well here's what they paid for it $27,000 and we could have it for that.So we didn't feel we had any choice other than to walk away but we really wanted the trailer. So we paid that. They gave us 2 $25 gift certificates.

While were driving home,my wife looked at them and they expired July 31st,2014!.When we did the walk through,we noticed there was a change in the floor plan but just figured they changed the floor plan because everything else looked the same. When we got home,we discovered that it wasn't the same model. It was 1 foot longer and 400 pounds heavier.Apparrently Keystone no longer made the trailer we ordered and sent this new model.

When I looked at the paper work,on one paper it identified it as the model we ordered and on the other,it identified it as a different one. Camping World never notified us of the change! The good thing is we do like the trailer but are very frustrated by the way this all went down.

2 more things that have happened. When we picked up the camper, they took my tow vehicle to hook up to the new trailer. When we went to do the walk through,it was hooked up to the hitch, but nothing else was hooked up.I noticed they changed the angle of the hitch ball.We drove home and everything was ok.On Sunday,we took it out for a shake down cruise to a state park about 2 hours away. When I went to hook up the trailer,it seemed the tongue of the trailer went down lower than normal.I pulled the trailer up onto the driveway to hook up the weight bars and noticed the hitch was loose and the ball was all the way back as far as it could go.Apparently when they adjusted the hitch, they didn't tighten the nuts. The bottom and top bolts were loose and the set bolt at the bottom wasn't tightened which was what caused the tongue to sag.Thank God it didn't happen on the way home from the dealer. So we camp fro 3 nights.Trailer worked fine and weather co-operated.When we left,we stopped at the dump station. My wife took the trash to the dumpster while I prepared to dump.I had the sewer hose in one hand and loosened the cap with the other and grey water started pouring out. This new trailer has 3 tanks while our others only had 2.Plus,you can't see the valves on the new one, only the handles so it's harder to tell when they are closed or open.Plus, the valve for the galley tank isn't located with the other 2. When the dealer checked the tanks apparently they didn't close the galley tank valve.Glad it was grey water instead of black.I hope this is the last of it.And yes,I will send a letter to Camping World listing all the issues and include the expired gift certificates.

The RV isn't the problem. We like it.The problem has been being misled every step of the way from when it would come in to the expired gift certificates,to the price, to the model being changed without us being notified. As a long time Camping World/Good Sam Life Member,I was very disapointed by the way the whole thing transpired.I would have hoped at the very least CW would have said we will send you new gift certificates, but we didn't even get that. Not much we can do now. I just needed to rant.

You can still write to the CEO of CW and express your disappointment with the gift cards with expectation they will correct that. The other issues certainly need to be expressed, but you pretty much already accepted the trailer at the price you paid. They still need to know about it. I would hope that make good on the gift cards.

In any case, enjoy your trailer and don't let your purchase experience put a wet blanket on your camping experiences. Have fun!

The problem with the different model is it puts the weight a little closer to the max weight of my tow vehicle.

RGar, I was wondering, is the MSRP on the unit you actually took home higher than the original unit?

You apparently did get a different model if it's 400 lbs. heavier and a foot longer.

Maybe the deal wasn't that bad?

I would have said, "I'll be right back with that trade in."

Then promptly find the closest $100 trailer on Craig's List, dump it in their lot and say, "Here's my $24,400."

I hear what you're saying. It's easy to say what you would do, but until you are in the OP's shoes, you don't really know what you would do.

Actually, yes, I do: because I DID! A dealer tried to bait-and-switch on me, I walked away and never returned to that dealer! (I also did a burnout in the parking lot & filled the showroom with tire smoke, but that is optional.)

He doesn't have a contract, which is the major cause of his problem or whatever.

You could play that both ways.
No contract means no obligation whatsoever to pay for the completely different model. Refund of deposit, and walk away.

Actually he can't.
He took possession, probably signed papers at the dealership and thus has an obligation to pay. Outside of his states' lemon law,(don't know if they apply to TTs/5th wheels) has no recourse in the stated circumstances.

On the other hand the OP says he's happy with his new RV.

Yes, my fault.
The line should have read...."You could have played that both ways".

As you said, too late now.

That's what I meant.
Wasn't the original dealership bought out and made a CW?
Or is it all the same people and now just a change of sign to say CW?
