MichaelK

Hey everyone... long time lurker finally created an account! I was curious what you guys think is the best wifi extender for RV's? I've been doing some research and I'm torn between a few of them. I think I've narrowed it down to these two:

rv must haves best wifi extender

and this one:

WiFi Ranger on Amazon

**edit** This one on Amazon has one great review and one lousy review, but a lot of people said it was good on another forum. So who knows??? Hopefully you guys!

There's a good discussion on Facebook about it, but figured there would be more people here who would have a good answer. So what are you guys using successfully?

I have used the Jefatech with the regular antenna for years and it has worked great. I put the antenna on an extendable pole and strap it to the fifth wheel hitch then run the cable inside the front closet of the fifth wheel with the hitch wires. I leave the router in the closet and get a great signal throughout the trailer. I agree with other posters who said these tend to bring in a good connection to the campgrounds WiFi which usually has no bandwidth to be of any value.

But instead of the suction cup it has a clip. Been very happy with it.

Cool, and affordable! Looks like this product goes with it to make it even better. Have you tried it?

I have used both of these with a yagi antenna in my Outback. Mounted the yagi onto the TV antenna and used it to raise above other trailers and aim. We used the Red Roof Inn Internet (about a mile away) and the County Fairgrounds (1/2 mile away) with great success. I kept the wireless portion turned off and ran through an Apple Airport Express...seamless integration with all our devices since everything was already paired to it....

The Voltage has a Wifi Ranger in it. It does OK, but I have used the Alfa hardware and yagi to bring in signals that the Ranger could not see....then I would share and broadcast through the ranger.

On a side note, the Alfa products will help with cell phone signals also, great when in a pinch with weak cell reception.

If you want a unit with a router, wireless and cellular connection capabilities, take a look at the Pepwave Surf OTG or one of the many other Wifi as WAN routers on the market.

WOW! That WIFI ranger is just shy of $500! It can be mounted rooftop, a good thing, but it does not have a directional antenna. Not a good thing.

I have it mounted on the riser part of my TV antenna. This raises it up even higher than the coach.
Do you have the "WFR Sky" that the OP linked to or the Wifiranger Mobile that actually comes with a mounting bracket to attach it to the bat wing antenna or a pole?

Yes, that is the one. It is mounted to the pole of the antenna. The only difficulty in mounting it was my hesitation to drill a hole in the roof of the MH. It came complete with the plug that goes around the cable for the hole in the roof though.

No just using the Alfa antenna and that's it.

Working good for you?

Yes, it works for me. A little pricey to purchase?..yes. I have it connected to their wireless router. All devices in the MH are connected to this wireless router. When I pull into the CG, all I have to do is search and find the CG's strongest signal. You would be amazed at how many signals there are in a CG!

There seems to be some confusion here over two very different devices. The OP is talking about a WIFI antenna signal BOOSTER, not a router that gets whatever it gets & rebroadcasts the signal, a wireless router.
Sorry Veebyes, the confusion seems to be on your side. The Amazon link the OP posted to is a signal booster with an integrated router. I have the exact combination he is asking about. It is both a signal booster and a router.

But I agree with you, that all he may need is a signal booster if he simply wants to boost one computer.

The other device linked costing $100 also only has a omnidirectrional antenna. Better than a laptops internal antenna but not as good as the Hawking directional dish at less than $50 but the dish is only good for one device.

I suppose ideally the dish could be connected to your own wireless router enabling multiple devices that way.
