Beware -New Camping World Super Store - Mesquite Texas

This new store is only as big as your average living room. It used to be an RV Max dealership & the old parts department is what is called the new Camping World Super Store. It only has 3 very short aisles with not very many products in stock. I drove 45 minutes to get to this store because they sent me a
$10 off coupon. I was so excited to have a store open close to me. A Super Store it is not. I will continue to order off the website.

The CW store that is now in the RV Max location in Cleburne is tiny. They have pretty stiff competition from the Fun Town RV Superstore about 8 miles away, and the PPL Motorhomes location just about a mile down the road. And, as someone already pointed out, the larger CW/McClains RV just about 15 miles away in South Fort Worth.

Camping World has bought 3 independent RV dealers in VA over the last year (Reines, McGeorges and Safford) so they will have a big presence in VA now. As for the small store in TX, I'm sure that it will be enlarged one of these days.

they bought out McGeorges????????? that would mean two stores about 40 miles apart???????????
I see safford evidently kept the Airstream franchise moved slightly south of the other facility?

The Airstream dealership was sold to CW as well. One of their salesperson's whom I've dealt with called me and let me know about the change. I think she mentioned they were retaining the name: Airstream of Virginia.

3 when you add in the Reines location in Ashland ~ 21 Jun. Something will have to give.

where in AShland is that located? the web site is no longer for reines, I know about the manassas one.

Its on RT 1 near Sheetz. Actual address is 418 S. Washington Highway Ashland. I tried the Reines Website yesterday and it does appear to be gone.

Camping World just bought Nelson's RV. The sale was finalizing as I bought my recent trailer. I'm really bummed - Nelson's was great to work with.

Really! I have shopped there and had good service, so what are they going to do? Shut it down? Merge? Rename?

Too bad. Sad.

It seems like they are merging, and leaving the Nelson's name on the dealership. I thought it was strange that they couldn't add my solar panels before I took possession of the trailer. Then, the next morning, the Statesman had an article about the buy out.

Surprising as the CEO is Marcus Lemonis and on his show The Profit he is all about the customer and having a great selection of products. Maybe he's too busy with the tv show....

With that show he has a MASS audience.
He will say what the viewers want to hear.....which may or may not bear any resemblance to the truth.

In a more candid moment, he said he really doesn't care about new motorhome sales.......because the margin is too low.

CW recently bought out one of the local RV dealers near me. It had a large parts dept. with everything out on the aisles (grocery store style), a DIY'er paradise.

CW came in and changed everything to it's corporate standard of only high priced, high turnover boutique items and high pressure sales personnel. That being said, they do have a much larger inventory of RVs available.

Where have you seen a car dealer or RV dealer that doesn't have "little boxed off" rooms? Why point at CW? Yeah, when buying a big ticket item I want everyone in the room hearing my SS number, DL license number, home address etc. Stop ragging on CW.

In answer to your question, no the store did not have a lot of the basic items that I needed. I needed some leveling blocks, stabilizer pads, cargo bars, fridge thermometer, step ladder and a sewer hose storage carrier. They had one brand of stabilizer and leveling pads. These were only about 6"x6" and too small for my trailer. The rest of the items were not in stock. They did have the briefcase solar panel that I had special ordered and the fridge bars were in stock. When they advertised this as a superstore, I was expecting it to be like the one in Tyler, TX. The personnel in the Mesquite store were extremely friendly and helpful. I just posted this in case others had planned to go to their Grand Opening next week and we're driving a long way to go there. The traffic in the Dallas area is bad even on the weekends. I don't mean to bash this store but I don't think Camping World should advertise it as a superstore.

Camping World apparently bought all three RV-Max locations - Mesquite, Sherman and Cleburne. Wonder how the Cleburne location will work out since it is just a few miles from the existing McClain's/Camping World store in Burleson.

Camping World has apparently been on a strategy of acquiring small to mid-sized RV dealerships across the country. They picked up one in Bossier City, LA in 2016 and in Tyler, TX about the same time.

For those who don't know - Texas has some very funny franchise laws that protect vehicle dealers from having someone move into their territory. There is at leasst one Camping World stores in Texas (Denton) which do not sell any RV's. New or used. The Fort Worth (Burleson) store does not sell RVs, they are sold through a co-located McClain dealership.

Will be interesting to see how the future goes. I've bought from RV-Max in the past and been very happy with the experience and after sale service/ support.

Funny, though - I would not drive 45 minutes to go use a $10 coupon. Even though that might be only 15-20 miles in Dallas - it would cost more than $10 in fuel to get there and back.

When I'm in a Camping World store, I always check the on-line price, and frequently I'll walk out of the store without purchasing anything because I ordered the item on my phone from CampingWorld.com for a cheaper price.
