Blue tote wheel mod

Ok I have searched till I am blue in the face. LOL
I know a bunch of you have changed the wheels on your waste totes to larger ones. I have seen threads in the past detailing these changes, but I can't seem to find any of them. Sooo if anyone has a link I would appreciate it.
Main question I have is, does the axle need to be changed?
I have a 22 gal. Barker. Thanks, John

Just guessing here, but the new wheel may be thicker , requiring the spacer be thinner, for the wheel to fit
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

The one question I really have is about the spacers mentioned in several threads. As I don't have the tote here at home, I was curious as to the need to cut one in half as several have stated. Are the spacers just plastic?

I am thinking of using these wheels here. Thanks for all the responses.

I used the same wheels. Harbor Freight in Independence had a ton of them. I don't think I'm using a spacer but I'll check my tote. A large washer between the tote and wheel would prevent the wheel from rubbing or a piece of PVC may work as a spacer.

My original wheels failed after 20 years and found good replacements at Tractor Supply that have bearings in the metal hubs and not plastic hubs like the O.E.

I was one of the posters on the link and I have to say my set up has worked wonderfully so far. I couldn't find any 6" pnuematic wheels, so I bought the 8" and had to make another steering axle set up, which raised the front end slighly compared to the rear. The side benefit is it gives me extra ground clearance. These units sit notoriously low, especially on an uneven site next to the trailer where it's filled. The biggest issue I've had is keeping air in the cheap-o innertubes. I finally installed green slime last season. Hopefully this will keep them in flated. Rubber tires rock, though!

Thanks Dog Folks!!!! Next time I will Goggle instead of Google!!! I did Google it by the way. Most of the threads detailing the mod no longer have the pictures. I think I understand how its done, I was just hoping for a couple of pics of somebodys mod. Thanks, John

A pneumatic-tired hand truck does a pretty good job too, and it's easier to wheel around. Once the axle came off my tote, it was near impossible to keep it on.

I put pneumatic Harbor Freight wheels on Barker tote and didn't have to change the axle. I tossed the axle retaining caps (which I destroyed trying to get the old wheels off) and drilled the axle for cotter pins.

I have a 35+ year old blue tote, seldom used, and the center of the solid wheel dried and cracked. I purchased new wheels at Harbor Freight with the same axle diameter, and just mounted them. Still not using it, but it roles and will be ready when the grandkids have scout camping.
