Carbon Monoxide detector

I have a Costar model 9-rv battery-operated CO detector that has gone bad after 6 1/2 years. I want to replace it, but they apparently don't make that model any more. What is my best bet to replace it with a new one that will not require any new holes or drilling in the ceiling?

Just got my replacement from JMAC and it fits perfectly. It is about 4 years old, though, so it's only got another 5 years, but it works fine, the packaging and alarm seal were intact, and the included battery read 9.3 volts, so all is good.

I suggest you read all the info and make your decision on this but I replaced the ones in my Class C with this one.They are rated for 10 years
and most are only rated for 5,If your RV is older than 5 years old and they haven't been changed they are most likely no good. Mine needed to be replaced so this was a good deal for me, I had a hard wired one and I chucked it for the battery powered ones, they can be checked before each trip by pushing the test button in the center of the unit.

Kidde nighthawk is the best option as noted above

Sorry - I was wrong. I searched for the QG100 and found it HERE for 48.50 with free shipping. I put one in the cart and went to checkout. It didn't say they were out of stock. Guess you can call them to confirm before ordering as I could not find on EBay or Amazon.

THere is no Best you can replace it with just about anything you find at Lowes, Home-Depot, Wal*mart your local hardware, Or any other store.

THERE IS NOTHING SPECIAL ABOUT AN RV CO DETECTOR.. They are identical to units sold for Sticks and Bricks

Right now Lowes has a special on FIrst Alert with the 10 year battery THis is a dual (Smoke and CO) detector, and it is one dollar more than the replacable battery version of the same alarm.

You may need to replace the mountaing bracket and the screw holes may not line up but odds are the new bracket will cover the old holes.

Keep in mind that the test buttons on various detectors are testing only the horn and its circuit. The button test does not test the sensing elements, only real exposure to CO, propane, smoke or particles of combustion will test sensing.
Sensing elements can be contaminated or have their lives shortened by dust, solvent fumes and cooking oil vapors. I would not trust any detector beyond five years. The only real test is for detectors to be exposed to what they are supposed to detect.
CO detector standards permit no alarm to sound at low levels for specified time periods.

I really think they are trying to push their 12v model, but I'm not in the mood to rewire the whole bedroom area. Incidentally, this has nothing to do with propane.

Keep in mind propane detectors need to be installed down at floor level as propane is heavier than air.

I need one that can be mounted with the existing screws and holes. If not, I'd rather just forget it. I also have a combo detector in the same coach.

Did you read the fine print on the back of the detector and install a fresh battery? It usually beeps a couple times when you install a new battery.

I had already checked. They no longer sell the battery model.
