Carrying my motorcycle

I pull a 25 foot travel trailer with my 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 liter Hemi. My trailer has an approx. dry weight of 4000 pounds. My motorcycle weighs about 640 pounds.

Looking for a way to bring the motorcycle with me. Not a fan of ramps in the truck bed. Thinking of a hitch lift for the bike with an extension for the hitch to attach the trailer.

Looking for any suggestions. Thanks

Worse comes to worse you can always find a dip in the pavement, slight hill, small ditch to lessen the slope. Unless you got one of those mile-high 4-wheel drive macho trucks of course. ๐Ÿ™‚


actually I and some others have found it quite easy to power the bike up walking beside it. Now this is on a dirt bike weighing in at between 200 and 250 lbs. A street bike, well not so sure.

Good point - I always look for a small ditch/slope which lessens the angle of the ramp and I park the Van on a very slight downhill so that when the bike clears the ramp, then gravity takes over.

Been doing this for many years and only had one "incident" when the bike
toppled over but that was my fault as I was not paying attention.

I had a similar situation years ago and used "black widow" ramps, they are 10' long. yes I know I was over weight, yet my truck never burst into flames from a couple hundred pounds.

been there, done that taking dirt bikes around. Even with them weighing in around 250lbs and a 10,000lb trailer, it's pushing the limit of capability if it is on the back of the trailer as far as reducing tongue weight, not much option there. Front reciever, bike sits to high to give visibility.

So.... while it isn't the first choice, the reality is the best choice is in the pickup bed. Get long ramps, a buddy helper, and NEVER ever Ride the bike up. I do power mine up, but walking beside it. one ramp for you one for the bike.

I know you said "no ramps" but that may be your only options; you did not
mention WHY you don't want ramps, but I did not like them originally because they were too steep; So I bought some 10ft lengths of wood and extended the ramps to make them less steep.

NEVER ride up the ramps and make sure they are secured to the truck so they don't slip backwards. I use 2 ramps, one for the MC and the other for me to walk up. Been doing this for many years with no incident.

I had posted just a moment ago thinking you wanted to hang the cycle off the back of the TT. But I see that you want to use a lift on the rear of the pickup and a hitch extension. I think that is possible if done carefully given that many TC folks use hitch extensions and tow large boats or trailers. However, you mention that your truck is a 1/2 ton so you'll likely be far over acceptable load ratings.

look at motorcycle loaders for your truck .Just push a button and winch loads the bike. Riding up ramps is risky

Or just trade your trailer for a toy hauler of the same length. Problem solved.

I doubt your frame could handle the weight and your bike hanging off the back of the trailer would be beat to death over bumps and such, assuming nothing else broke. Sounds to me like a recipe for disaster but go ahead and try it and let know how it goes.

You may not like ramps for the truck, but that may be the only way to do it safely.

Putting that much weight, I mean you're looking at probably around 750+ lbs. hanging off the end of the truck, plus the hitch weight. Probably won't need power steering with that setup. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think it would make for some real white-knuckle driving.
