Coach-Net Road Side Assistance -- Are you unhappy?

I have read some of the complaints on Good Sam Road Side Assistance on the page on road side assistance. I understand that only unhappy customers will post to the forum thus one should remember that the happy customers may outnumber the unhappy customers.

After reading the complaints my worry is (1) the time delay in receiving help and (2) the incompetence (poor training) of the person who answers the phone.

I normally do not carry roadside assistance insurance. At $200 per year and only using it -- say once in 5 years, I can pay a $1,000 tow bill. If I brake down, why not call 911 and let the highway police call the quick response tow servic. This way I will not sit on the highway for hours waiting for a tow truck.

A number of the posting suggest Coach-Net as a replacement to Good Sam. Are any of you unhappy with service you received form Coach-Net???
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

We've used our Coach-Net ERS a number of times over the years with various motorhomes. Our longest wait was a bit over 2 hours for the nearest capable tow service to drive the 90 miles or so to get to us. The shortest wait was basically zero minutes, when a tow truck pulled in behind us to see if we needed assistance when we spun a rear wheel bearing and almost lost the duals and axle on one side. When I said we had Coach-Net, he chuckled and said he would start hooking up since he would probably get the call before he was done. He was right...

I have had Coach Net for about 7 years and have never needed them. For $79 a year and given the serious miles we put on coast to coast I can not imagine being without the coverage. As to CW, no thanks, I have seen too many complaints and am familiar with how that organization does business.

As far as time spent on the side of the road I will not be there {for very long}. I carry all of the tools and of course a good spare {cannot imagine traveling with out one}, and have the rudimentary skills to quickly get that tire changed by myself. If I call CN and they have a response time for more than 30 minutes I will simply do it myself. Time spent on the shoulder is time in the "Dead Zone" and I will not linger.

As always.... opinions and YMMV

Call 911 for a flat tire? Good idea. ๐Ÿ˜‰

People get killed "parked" on the side of the interstate. That is why we have the Move Over laws.

Yes, I will want a police car with its flashing lights behind me while I change the tire on my TT

Then no one should waste their money on AAA, Coach-Net, Good Sam, Etc.?
Just call 911 for a dead battery? ๐Ÿ™‚

I can see that happening, NOT. Hello 911, I have a flat and need a cop. They'll tell you to call a tow service. That's what flares and road triangles are for. A flat tire is not a 911 EMERGENCY.

Coach Net is great. Carried them for many years with no tow. Then we had a rash of tows. Wife's car needed to be towed when the clutch blew, yes it includes your personal car also. Then we needed out fifth wheel towed Twice on one trip. One MH towing. Added up the costs and I exceeded what I paid over all the years.

Remember they will tow you to the nearest repair location regardless of distance. Need a tire? They'll find you one. Just having someone who can call around the unknown area you are in is worth it.

First thing Coach net asks you , "are you in a safe place".

Been towed once by CoachNet. Guy came dressed in a white shirt and at the end of the tow, his shirt was still white and no grease spots.

I don't see CN at $200/yr. My last renewal was something like 370 for 5 years
