Dodge Challenger transmission trouble

I bought my '13 6 speed RT in late March to tow behind our class A Sightseer. I bought it because it can be flat towed without any modifications. It has 3300 miles on it. Long story short, took a short 200 mile trip towing it behind the Rv and within a few miles after unhooking and driving it started to grind going into 4th then shortly after it would lock up altogether. I towed it in neutral and under 65 mph just as the owners manual says.

Any ideas because I can't figure out what could have caused it?

The weather stripping on the Focus was damaged by climbing in and out, so it is wear and tear, not defect in workmanship.

We looked at a manual transmission Toyota Tacoma and I asked them to check the manual about towing. They said "not recommended" but "go ahead, everybody does it" to which I replied: "I'm already tangled with Toyota over a powertrain issue covered by warranty that they don't want to fix. You are crazier than the proverbial goose if you think I'll buy into a documented prohibition." Bought a Frontier.

I will guarantee you the people your dealing with in the service department have never read the manual.

You're right about service departments. My wife pulled into the Ford dealer to get some weather stripping repaired. They noticed the brackets for the tow bar and our car became the center of attention for a few minutes. They wanted to know if we had to modify the vehicle and how we got the brackets on, etc. They asked her several times if she was SURE the car was flat towable. Despite assurances we had towed it from coast to coast harm free, it wasn't until she told them to look in the owner's manual did the questions stop. They were amazed to see that an unmodified automatic transmission could be flat towed up to 70mph with no mileage limits. My wife was amazed to see that the service department had little idea of the car's capabilities.

Did you get any resolution to this trans problem, and are you satisfied that the 6spd Challenger can be towed?

I'm about to pull the trigger on one, and towing is a critical part of my needs.

Thanks in advance.

@ Iryrob9301, that doesn't sound very promising. What do you mean by "new warranty"? What do I need to be weary of?

Thank you for the information, I guess the fact that new Dodge vehicles no longer come with an owner's manual is a sign. I had to request one.

Friends of mine in the car business at Chrysler dealerships say " The New Chrysler Corporation" (insider's joke) is worse about paying warranty claims than the old company. Just make a copy of the owners manual where it states the vehicle is 4 wheel towable just in case. That's because I will guarantee you the people your dealing with in the service department have never read the manual.

The 4th gear syncro and slider are bad. Now you get to see how well the "NEW" Chrysler Corporation warranty works!!
