Equinox being towed

Has anyone on the site towed or are towing a Chevy Equinox. If you have what is your best honest evaluation of it and What do you tow the car with (gas/Diesel motorhome). Thank you for your comments. Mac

All, thank you for the comments, this is why we bought the car, does everything we need from towing a small trailer to going on vacation. Mac

I stand corrected. It's the 2.0 4 cyl that has the 9 speed. V6 is gone.

rjstractor exactly what I figured to the equinox weighs about 3800# and traveling thru Virginia/west Virginia mountains my V-10 will be screaming.

Once again, you can check the manual but the 2018 1.5l turbo 4 cylinder and the diesel model will not have the 9 speed transmission and can be towed. They will have the 6 speed transmission. A simple google search will confirm this.

I have a 2013 Equinox that we've towed since new......great vehicle easy to tow.
The "death wobble" as previously noted started raising it's head a couple of years ago. It's caused when you turn your wheels on the motorhome too tight when pulling out of your driveway,from a stop sign at an intersection, etc.
It's been noted that the 4 cyl model(which I have)has electronic steering is the reason for the "death wobble" which is the front wheels on the car whipping side to side until you come to a complete stop so they reset as you slowly pull away again. The fuse that the towing guide suggests you pull when towing shuts down the electric to the steering control. I tested the theory by leaving the fuse in so the electric was intact and it cured the problem, so I'm probably going to run a line from my rig to the car to keep the battery charged while towing. My first test trip will be to leave the fuse in and carry my juice box along in case the battery does get run down so I can jump the car.
NOW, if you are looking for an Equinox to tow, find one with the 6 cylinder engine, they have hydraulic steering which prevents the wobble!

If you currently tow the Chevy Cruze in your signature, you might notice a slight drop in speed on hills towing an Equinox. The Equinox is probably 1000 or so pounds heavier, but considering your overall combined weight that increase is pretty minimal. When I used to tow with a 1998 V10 class C, I couldn't tell the difference between a 2400 lb and a 3100 lb toad.

Chevy doesn't offer the V6 anymore in the Equinox. 2018's offer two 4 cyl. turbo versions and eventually a diesel. All engines will have a new 9 speed trans. I read the owners' manual. It specifically says they cannot be flat towed. It's very similar to what happened the Honda CRV starting in 2015.

No matter what the salesman says, make sure you read the owner's manual before you buy a toad.

Good reviews so far, Ours is a 2016 6cyl AWD. Our coach is a 02 ford V-10. What reports on pulling hills?

I believe the 2018 models with the 4 cylinder and Diesel engines can be flat towed per the owners manual. Not the 6 cylinder model.

Be sure to google the "equinox death wobble" and verify what model it applies to and if you have that model/year vehicle.

I also have a 2012 Equinox. It is a dandy dinghy. Gas F53 tows it easily. I weighed it on commercial scales 4100 lbs. That is with 350 lbs of people and a half a tank of gas. Tows in neutral with a fuse pulled (I put in a switch) and the key open 1 notch to unlock steering. Demco base plate with RVI2 braking.

I've been towing our Equinox for over 1 year behind our gasser. It's easier to tow than my Honda CRV was. Please note that the 2018 models cannot be towed.

Just make sure you follow the directions in the owners manual as to how long you should go before restarting it and shifting gears. I was all prepared to tow my GMC Terain ( same as Eqinox ) behind my 36' diesel pusher but decided it was too new and nice to tow. I since bought a used Honda CRV to tow instead. I have seen many Eqinox vehicles being towed in my travels.
