Good Sam / Pilot Flying J card discounts

Ok before anyone says it, I know I should have checked my receipt before leaving the station. That said, last week I fueled up at a Flying J a good distance from home, to the tune of 53 gallons. When I got home and checked the receipt I saw that the 3 cent loyalty discount was applied the charge, but not the 5 cent Good Sam discount.

I sent off an e-mail to Pilot but haven't heard back. Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced anything like this.

I guess this is a cautionary tale about always checking the receipt before pulling away!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I really don't understand the benefit of the Good Sam/Pilot charge card.

I use the Flying J RV (Real Value) discount card which cost me nothing. Then I use my rewards Visa card that pays 4% on fuel purchases. Four percent on $3.50 per gallon is fourteen cents per gallon. So my total savings are sixteen cents per gallon and no special charge card account needed.

The pump may be set to only allow one discount at a time.

Most, if not all, Pilots and some Flying J's (like Frystown PA) don't have RV lanes so it's auto or truck. I am amazed that the Frystown station was completely revamped in the last year or so and no RV lane was included.

We didn't go 5000, but we did travel 3000. Used our RV/Plus as much as possible. We used it at Pilot, Road Ranger/Pilot ( Truck Pumps) and one Flying J with RV pump. Never a problem, followed trucker procedures when using truck pumps. A few short waits at truck pumps, but quick fills, no manuerving around car traffic, and good access.to rest rooms and coffee made up for those. Quite satisfied so far.

Got the rv plus card a couple months ago after purchasing the motorhome. We get 7 cents off of gas with the elite membership. When we got the card (only got one and was supposed to get two and never got the other now to think of it), I called to check to see if it was gonna credit me with the elite membership discount or the regular GS discount. They had to go in and set it up for the elite member discount. Used it at 4 different flying J's and worked perfectly each time. First time I have ever spent nearly $150 in gas at once. Lol

Could the tax issue be the reason the flyingj by my house seems so darn expensive?

I purchased diesel at Hess yesterday for 3.72 and most around here are 3.75 That is a huge difference.

Even if without discount, well worth it not to deal with Visa/Mastercard $100 limits.

I use card at FJ/Pilot all the time for RV and car and very rarely has it not registered the discount right on the pump as well as print on the receipt. Shows 6 cents off each time. Even if without discount, well worth it not to deal with Visa/Mastercard $100 limits. Also got the mobile appl to know where the stations are located when driving. Been very happy with card.

I just got a call from Pilot customer service. They will credit my account for the extra discount. The young lady seemed to think the lack of the Good Sam discount might have to do with the fact that what I purchased was "auto diesel" AKA from the car pumps and not the truck lanes. That's what I've always used so if that is a policy change, it's a new one and $.05 a gallon isn't worth the hassle and long waits at the truck lanes, at least at my local Pilot. There are usually at least 3 or 4 trucks at each lane whenever I go.

I used two different flying J and two different pilots using the Plus card and had no problems. The price was always 4 cents cheaper after I activated the pump.

They had to pay back all those trucking outfits that they stole the rebate money from, so now their getting it from us. Maybe we should get the FBI after them like the truckers did. And it is still going on: Two New Jersey trucking companies suing Jimmy Haslam's Pilot Flying J Travel Centers

different prices at the car and truck pumps has to do with different levels of taxes for commercial use vs consumer use. Some places will adjust the price from commercial to consumer, others will not.

Then just send them and email and try to find out what happened. Have you checked to see if something changed on the discount policy.

Sent the e-mail last evening. As far as I can tell from both the GS and P/FJ web sites the discounts haven't changed.
