Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Another member suggested a new forum section with new products but it doesn't look like it will be feasible. So I thought I would post this here under General RVing Issues. If enough people post (even if you have mentioned it before in another post) we can keep it near the top?

Do you have a handy hint, a new product or an old product that makes your RVing or Camping much better?

(Sorry, no commercial advertising allowed)

I'll start:

Someone in the Camping Van posted a reference to using a Super-Chamois to wipe down their shower. I have been using an icky old thick sponge and I like the chamois idea so much more.

Now I want to hear what works for you

Hmmm, that didn't work right, either. This should work better: folding basket.

I use these in the upper cabinets over our bed in our Jayco. Three of them fit nicely and it makes it easy to keep his and hers undies and PJ's separate. I use the middle basket for seasonal clothing. I can then tote them in the house for laundry and back out to the TT. They are on sale at CW. They remind me of our old canvas tent and it brings back good memories.

Just read the WHOLE THING to make sure I wasn't going to duplicate. Here are a couple a tricks we use. We are not fulltimers, so we are always unpacking, washing, and repacking the trailer. One thing, we did is to buy me colored underwear for the trailer. It doesn't get mixed with house stuff and goes right back where it belongs.

Another thing, the metal rod in your closet is a very thin piece of pipe. Well, we bent ours(you know how and why), so I went to a lumber yard, bought a 3/4" X 36" dowel and forced it into the pipe. Had to cut about 3 inches off it but it is now sturdy and we don't worry about it.

Thank you folks so much for the great ideas. This is a really helpful thread.
Y'all have fun now!!

I found a little unused space on my 03 Monaco DPDD. I removed the pannels then put cabinet doors that I had made. Gives a good space for storing vacuum parts and good access for the rear of the upper cabinet.

Helpful thread. Lots of ideas.

This is my counter extention. Found a bamboo cutting block at yard sale and resized it. I think it cost about $8 with everything.
I hope the pix work. I forgot how to post them.

This Wide Angle Lens on the back window of my MH, in view of my rear view mirror, gives me a good view of the medium distance behind me between the rear view camera view and the side mirror view.

One of the best things we've done. I made a post light out of one and a half inch PVC pipe with a metal base that I anchor in the ground with tent stakes. Then installed a screw in photo cell that turns it on and off. When returning from shopping or eating out, we can see how to get the key in the door.

Wow what a great collection of tips and I just read from page 50.

Keep them coming for us newbies.

Bob,

I'm with you on that one. When we lived in Fla. many years ago we were going to Disney Campgrounds and the "Love Bugs" were thick, so I sprayed the front of our truck with Pam.....It took weeks to get off, the stuff baked on in the sun..

I would NOT try spraying PAM on your rig. It makes a terrible mess and all the dirt seems to stick to it. Friends have tried it and regretted it. Removing it from the rig is no easy task.

Does the cooking oil spray work as well as this stuff?

I have not tried this bug shield stuff. Maybe I'll try it. But will try the cooking oil first.
