Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Another member suggested a new forum section with new products but it doesn't look like it will be feasible. So I thought I would post this here under General RVing Issues. If enough people post (even if you have mentioned it before in another post) we can keep it near the top?

Do you have a handy hint, a new product or an old product that makes your RVing or Camping much better?

(Sorry, no commercial advertising allowed)

I'll start:

Someone in the Camping Van posted a reference to using a Super-Chamois to wipe down their shower. I have been using an icky old thick sponge and I like the chamois idea so much more.

Now I want to hear what works for you

I have my SunPass transponder placed at the right spot on the windshield to do what the tape does. If the R white line is anywhere close to it then I am in my lane.

It's like using the hood emblem on a car to do the same thing. Well, not too many cars have the emblems any more. My Cadillac and Mercedes do, this may be why I wanted a point like this for the motor home.

When camping I just tell clients that I am working at "Corporate Headquarters"

It's a reference point, the same as when I look at the corner of my truck to judge how far from the edge of the road I am. You would get a feel for it the same as any other fixed point on your vehicle
And a very good reference point that you do not have to remove your eyes from the road to use.

The things that come to those that wait will be the junky stuff left by those that got there 1st.

Maybe I'm missing something but with the tape idea wouldn't it depend on exactly where your head and eyes are? If you moved your head just an inch or two seems like your line would be off by multiple feet...

The tape is down by the wipers. It is a quick glance to see what you want to see quickly and does not replace the use of our very good double side view mirrors.

The tape idea sounds a bit dangerous to me. The mirrors work perfectly and not only let me know how much room I have but also if there is anything else on the side of me such as another vehicle, etc. I would suggest bigger mirrors if you cannot focus with your current setup.

I have a small stuffed Moose, Monty, on the driver's side dash. I can look quickly and easily at his "antlers" and gauge my position in reference to the center line. It all works.

The tape is a great idea, sort of like when I learned to drive in the 60s, we were taught to line the hood ornament (what's that you say) up with the white line on the right side of the road. It kept us in the middle of our own lane.

We recently applied about a six inch piece of black electrical tape low on the driver's side window( near the wipers). It lines up with the driver's view of the white line on the right side of the road when our vehicle is as close to that line as we are comfortable being. It is much easier to glance down at that tape to see if we have room to move over than it is to take the few seconds to focus on the side view mirror (or to ask "How close am I?") We are currently traveling on some pretty narrow Norwegian roads and this has been a great help when something big is coming at us. Join us at http://www.ourtravelswithrover.com/

You are indeed, creative! I found some guards sort of like this at a dollar store and picked them up.They are all coated metal. They were mainly for use in the wind when cooking outdoors but we can also use them indoors.

So here is two tips in one. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I see people asking what to protect the walls around the stove. I haven't gotten around to fitting something more permanent so a few strips of Glad press and seal does the trick until I stop being lazy. These were up ten days.

The second tip was a accident. While using the oven we had the two pots over the vents and had free hot water for doing the dishes.

BTW Dinner was baby back ribs with a dry rub and topped with brown sugar, slow roasted for 3 1/2 hours plus Zucchini and summer squash fried in butter. Not in pic is corn on the cob and baked potatoes done in the oven with the ribs.

A great way to store items for your kids on the trip!!

Those are also great for when you go on a cruise as the cabins can get pretty small. great place to keep your camera and shoes and sun blocks and all that good stuff when not in use. We used the kind that hung over the door.

Love those organizer links, campkrazy!

I am trying something similar on our trip this year in our little van. I am using this organizer and one of these for some of our needs. My husband has trouble finding "stuff" (so he says) and I want to help him!
