National General quoted us twice as high as others.... we go through Allied (Nationwide company) on our 2013 Class C and pay $500/year ($500 deductible). They valued it somewhere between $70,000 - 80,000.

I am with my parent company for vehicles, home etc. Is there a reason you cannot get a quote from them. You have it all in one bundle then?

Trying to compare a rate quoted to you with a rate quoted to another person is pretty much useless.
It depends on driving record,State of residence, what state the policy is written for,the state/location where the unit is garaged, the companies doing the quotes, and a multitude of other facts. And,your credit score can have an effect also.
An example,"garaged",my ins. company lets me claim that my 5th wheel is "garaged" in OR and my TV is "garaged" in SD.I get lower rates that way.(on the abdvice of my agent".Go figure!

It doesn't matter where the insurance company is located, only where the owner of the property to be insured is located.

Your problem is you are in TX which has a Ins. Commission that sets rates but allows ins. companies to charge at the max rate set.

We had SD as state of residency.......Full timers insurance on our 5vr (same type of policy we had on our S&B house) was $850/yr.
We checked what ins. would be if we 'moved' to TX.......change of address only.
Ins. was going to be $1140/yr. Same policy, same coverage.....just change of address from SD to TX.

It's really hard to compare others rates as each policy is written on the individuals/vehicle/coverage/deductible/credit reports/driving history etc. etc.

We used National Interstate Ins.........specialize in RV coverage
BlueSky and Foremost are others.

You just need to get quotes for various ins.companies doing business in TX
Is it time for your medication or mine?

I retired from a P & C insurance company. Insurance prices are controlled by each individual state. I don't remember which is which anymore, but some states are file and use (each company can charge what the market will bear), some are prior approval (the state reviews your rates prior to approval, so you have to provide your premium and loss history), and some are named rate (the state sets the premiums) and your choices are "yes" and "no".
Good Grief! You're from Texas. They're "named rate." Many companies (like mine) choose not to write insurance in Texas. I talked to the Texas Commissioner's office one year about their calculations, and the guy said "That does look wrong. Oh, well".

The problem with comparing rates is that some people carry more liability than others. I don't own a 5ver but since I carry $1 million liability I couldn't compare my rate with a MH owner carrying minimum state liability. JMHO but I would call several insurance companies listing same values in all categories. In addition some companies offer additional discounts for multi vehicles etc. Plus some offer additional discount if you also have your S&B insured with them. Just seems like to many varibles to compare.
