Jeep Liberty Transfer case

I own a 2006 Jeep Liberty and am towing 4 wheels down. What's the secret to getting the darn transfer case out of neutral when disconnecting from Rv???? It's a battle everytime I disconnect. Liberty users would appreciate your advise.

I have a 2016 purchased 2 months ago.
Ugh! Getting my butt kicked by mine right now! The instructions are very clear, and I follow them to the T. Now for some reason today it won't get out of neutral/tow mode. While holding the neutral button, the neutral light goes from solid to blinking, and won't stop blinking. Just won't actuate and get back in gear. Since I'm not mechanical, it looks like two more attempts and I'm calling a tow truck.
Haven't ever had trouble getting it into neutral/tow mode. But this morning, it took several minutes to get back into driving mode. This afternoon, it's just a trailer.

READ the owners manual that should have come with the automobile.
Pay attention to what it says and follow the directions. It will work for you. It's a very easy process. If you don't have an owners manual there are places where you can purchase them.

when you put in neturel does it go easy from 2wd? mine goes in with 2 fingers, if not check linkage if that is ok then I have had problems with plastic sleves coming /breaking off the shift forks inside the tc. is this a 231 or a 242 transfer case . 231 ---2wd-4wd hi- neturel-4wdlow. 242 2wd -4wdful time- 4wd part time- neturel-4wd low? the 231 tc is bullet proof and very easy to work on same with 242 only a few extra parts

It goes EASY from 2wd to 4wd and then to neutral with no problem or resistance. But when I try to return to 2wd from neutral, it is difficult. Trying to keep from jamming it into 2wd and after numerous attempts it will go to 2wd position. I can feel shifter going into 2wd.It almost feels like it gets into the right "notch" if that makes any sense. Also, from your description it sounds like transfer case is 231 type.

The other question I wanted to ask is how easy was it to go back from neutral to 2wd?

I had a 2006 for a while, and I remember some part of the TC shifting gave me trouble too, but never failed to finalize. I believed it was the nature of the thing,....learned to live w/ it.
The 2012 Lib I have now, much easier, but the TC is electric shift.

I always put the trans in neutral before changing the transfer case from neutral to 2wd. If the trans is in park it doesn't allow the input shaft of the transfer case to move just a bit to allow the easy shift back to 2wd.

I also leave trans in neutral as well when attempting to place transfer case in2wd.
