Leaving a Canadian trailer in us.

My wife and I are considering a long term rental of a RV lot in AZ or SoCal and leaving our trailer on the lot. 1 Year or longer.

I know some of the states require that vehicles may need to be registered in that state, if left for over 6 months. Has anyone done this, and what are the tax imclications of registering a trailer in the US?
We are just starting to think about this,so I have not contacted US Customs yet regarding entering the trailer into the US. What does it cost to register a trailer in the states listed above, I don't know how this would work? Any info is appreciated.

We put the 5er on a lot in Az and insured insured it as a "park model" .... no plate required. When we moved it out we insured it through Progressive with an Ontario plate attached. Not a problem.

Note that Arizona has different rules then Ontario for towed vehicles. However the towing vehicle covers your liability in Ontario, if you have an Arizona plate you need to buy liability coverage in Arizona to be legal.

We lived in BC for 11 years. I am from US, and my 5th wheel was licensed and insured in WA state using my daughters home address. My tow vehicle was licensed and insured in BC and i had a BC drivers license. I did fit into a special catagory as a pastor but the only problems i encountered was bringing my 5th wheel with washington license into BC towed behind my BC licensed pickup and i had a BC drivers license. But because i had my visitors papers i could actually do this peculiar thing. Going into the states no problem, going into Canada it was interesting. RCMP was doing their job. I am only sharing my experience, not any recommondations.

Thanks for all the good info. We have thought of buying 5er in Az, but I already have a 30 ft 5er at home in B.C. I don't really want two.
Towing down in the winter is getting a little less enjoyable all the time, also, I don't knowing about towing a US insured and registered trailer with my B.C. registered truck.

We have thought about rental of a park model but we still like the ability of being able to travel and see more of the great south west. We usually only spend 2-3 months, Jan_ Mar. It would be nice to be able to run down in the car and spend some time in the fall and the spring. I guess I will have to give this a lot more thought. Thx

We had thought of doing that same thing, then we reconsidered and ended up purchasing a 5th wheel and leaving it in AZ. We have it in an RV park outside of Yuma, while we are there we pay the normal RV Park rates however for the seven or so months that we are not there we leave it on our spot and it only costs $25.00 per month. We have the trailer registered in AZ, costs about $275.00 per year, they base plates on model and year of the trailer, goes down each year and we also have US insurance that runs about $270.00 per year.

If you plan to leave the trailer in the US, the best thing to do is purchase one there,but I think that you might need is an US address.
Do a search on the web to find the prices in the US compared the ones in Canada .
