Microwaves & Food

In a book I was reading the other day the author alleges that cooking foods in a microwave oven affects their nutritional value. He then proposed an interesting experiment:

1. Plant a few seeds in two separate containers with equal types of soil.

2. Water one container with plain water and the other with water that has been microwaved (he didn't state how long to microwave it).

He states that the seeds watered with the microwaved water WILL NOT germinate. Evidently the microwaves alter the molecular structure of the water and act the same with food.

Anyhow, I thought I'd share this since I found it interesting although I'm not quite sure I believe it. Maybe one of us can repeat the experiment to see if the author's right...

I think I would prefer taking medical/scientific advice from Gary Trudeau given the choice.

is still written and pencilled by Garry Trudeau. Maybe your paper dropped it, but I am still reading it.

That's obviously why Kevin Trudeau is hiding in Switzerland. I heard they don't use MW's that far north.

note that that "gentleman" no longer pushes drugs after the injunction to have him stop that, so now he writes books instead since that is protected under freedom of speech so the FDA can't nail him for that.
a real sleezeball.
from wikipedia:Kevin Mark Trudeau (born February 6, 1963) is a controversial American author, radio personality, infomercial host, and salesman who promotes various unsubstantiated health, diet and financial "remedies". Several of his books, including Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You to Know About, allege that both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the pharmaceutical industry value profit over treatments or cures.

Trudeau's activities have been the subject of both criminal and civil action. He was convicted of larceny and credit card fraud in the early 1990s, and in 1998 he was sued by U.S. Federal Trade Commission for making false or misleading claims in his infomercials promoting his book The Weight-Loss Cure "They" Don't Want You to Know About. In 2004, he settled that action, by agreeing to pay a $500,000 fine and consenting to a lifetime ban on promoting products other than his books via infomercials.[1] On Nov. 29, 2011, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a $37.6 million fine levied against him for violating that 2004 settlement. Additionally, on remand, the district court modified its final order, requiring that he post a $2 million bond before engaging in future infomercial advertising. [2][3][4] In April 2013 he was reported to have filed for bankruptcy to avoid fines and stay further Federal prosecution.

I have used microwaved water every since the first microwaves came out. So far, I have lost most of my hair, what is left has turned white, My teeth have had to be replaced, I am diabetic, and have had a heart attack. I have had cataracts obscure my vision, and had to have them replaced. And my prostate is enlarged. No doubt about, it has to have been the water!

Snopes - Microwaved Water

Well I'll be...that Snopes experiment proves the author wrong. I'm glad to see that because I always use my microwave instead of the conventional oven. BTW, that author was Gary Trudeau, who wrote a couple of books about natural cures and how the pharmaceutical and medical industries have been "lying" to us because they want to push drugs where there is money to be made rather than cheap natural cures. But that's a subject for another time....;)

Nonsense. If MW altered the molecular structure of water it would turn into something different.

I have been reading they do harm the value of food items but never looked up any science behind the subject. Nuking food is not something Grandma did for sure.
