Mount brake controller with velcro?

So I purchased a Tekonsha P3 electronic brake controller for my 2015 Dodge Durango. Rather than drilling into the dash, I was considering mounting it with industrial velcro. I plan on mounting it in front of my right knee.

Has anyone done this? Did it stay (I live in central Texas).

I looked again and think I will use the pocket mount of the P3. In addition to removing the unit easily, I can remove the "pocket" portion as well for the gaps in towing. Then I just have the small little bracket still there.

Depends on the velcro, the industrial stuff is pretty good. But i wouldn't want to be grabbing for the break controller and have it fall off in my hand. So i used the screws last time I did it. When I sold the truck no one noticed.

As I mentioned on your other thread, I’ve used the 3M dual lock fasteners that came with my (Tekonsha) brake controller for years. It works great and took years before the adhesive failed and seconds to replace it when it did.

Like was mentioned, take the controller out when not in use to further the life. Alternatively you could just keep the rest of the roll under the seat and just replace it as needed.

I use the dual lock in one vehicle and the bracket in another since both never tow at the same time.

I did that, worked for 2 years before it fell off on a hot day while parked.

I have a small inverter velcroed to the floor. It stays there pretty much permanently. When I have to take it out it is a bear to move. Velcro is amazing.

If your goal is not to mar your interior, I think the adhesive would probably mess your knee panel up horribly..

What? Do you think there would be that much movement? The controller is pretty light, don't take much to hold it.

All you need is 2 small holes to mount it. I wouldn't even worry about it.

The Velcro will hold pretty well. Heat will weaken the hold of adhesive. How much time will you park with trailer hooked up? If you are like most, "1 weekend a month, plus 2 weeks a year" you might be better to pull controller of Velcro, unplug, and put it in glove box when not in use. Most of the time the glue would only need to hold half the weight of Velcro.
And if you never plan to unhook Velcro, why use it? The right double stick tape?

I just don't see the velcro adhesive holding in a vehicle parked in the hot sun. I'd just use the screws. The 2 small holes drilled will hardly be noticeable on the lower part of dash. You do know that the actual hole will be much smaller than the screw appears...right? 🙂

Using the standard bracket, I don't think it would be secure enough. The Prodigy P2 has an optional pocket mount, and this does work well with velcro. The P2 brakes the same, but doesn't have as fancy of a screen. I don't know if the P3 will fit the P2 pocket mount.

Hard to imagine velcro holding up to the weight. The hook & loop may stay fastened, but I'd expect the adhesive to give out on the other side of the tape.

I drilled my holes into the ashtray door and mounted my P3 there. I figured I could probably buy a replacement ashtray if I wanted to someday sell the truck. Just a thought.
