New Jeep Renagade not flat towable

I had been watching the development of this Fiat based little jeep, and noticing that several Fiat were 4 down towable, had hoped that the new Renegade would be as well. Today I found that the driver's manual says "no" for all of them, manual transmission included.
I was disappointed, it had been on my short list to replace my CRV (since Honda has made the CRV none -towable as well).
Now I waiting to see about the new Honda HR-V. It being Fit based I am again hopeful.

Have you called Remco to see what their response is?

Even though the vehicle is not listed in their "select your vehicle" list, call them. They may have a solution or may tell you that they are working on it.

I did email Remco..
"Thank you for contacting Remco Industries. At this time we do not have the necessary information on the Jeep Renegade to know if it will work for flat towing. I do show that per Family Motor Coaching's 2015 Tow Dinghy Guide that the Manual Transmission on the Automatic and Manual Transmission are towable as is per Jeep.

I believe it has the 9 Speed Automatic transmission and at this time Remco Industries does not have a Lube Pump Kit for the 9 Speed Automatic Transmission, being it is a new transmission.

If you have any further questions please contact us."

As you can see the info they have doesn't match the car's manual - I suspect a last minute change by Jeep.

I was able to download the DEC14 version of the Owner Handbook and sadly found the following:

Towing Your Vehicle
Your vehicle is not designed to be towed behind a motor home. If your vehicle needs to be towed in an emergency, refer to the emergency towing information.
Page 357

In this manual, I found no reference to a Manual Transmission or a Clutch.

Sorry the HR-V automatic is not towable, the 5spd is still towable.

The Renegade is not a real Jeep. It is a Fiat made up to look like a Jeep. Car and Driver just tested in the March edition. "Silly, reasonably agile and practical, not joyless like its forebears. Silly, engine is a 180 hp vibrator, you will never be taken seriously while driving it. If there were a Jeep emoji (the ideograms or smileys used in Japanese electronic messages and webpages), it would look like this."

Why would want something built by Fiat anyway? Much like Yugo. You would have to buy two. One to drive and one for parts.

As I stated the toad will not be a daily driver. If it was to be a daily driver, I would choose the Cherokee.

Since there is not much difference in weight between these vehicles and the toad will not be a daily driver, I will be going with a 4 dr Wrangler.

Funny you would pick the Wrangler over a Cherokee as a daily driver. IMO the Cherokee would have a better ride and better fuel mileage. But not having driven both vehicles that is pure conjecture.

This was a big mistake by Jeep since the Renegade would have been a great light weight toad. I have a 2 dr Wrangler and wanted to move to a 4 dr vehicle to haul the grandkids around. I was hoping the Renegade would be flat towable. However now my choice is between a Cherokee or a 4 dr Wrangler. Since there is not much difference in weight between these vehicles and the toad will not be a daily driver, I will be going with a 4 dr Wrangler.

This is discouraging to hear JEEP is getting away from the TRANSFER CASE concept.

Been towing JEEPS from way back in the 50s and 60s when they had the flip lock hubs that made you walk out into mud up to your knees to engage them when you went into 4WD. Then they all started to come out with automatic transmissions but by switching the transfer case to NEUTRAL solved the problem just fine.

May have to hang onto my older JEEP for awhile longer...

Have had my eyes on the newer four door JEEP for awhile now.

My Posts are IMHO based on my experiences - Words in CAPS does not mean I am shouting

I didn't want to believe you at first - had to look at the owners manual online at http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/manuals/ but it is true - can not flat tow in any configuration. Kind of a weird thing for Jeep to overlook.
