Your Lynx only had a 1.6 gasser with tall gearing. When we had four people in the car it was hard to hold fourth on most hills. My old 2.2 Perkins was good for towing 3500 lbs (although slow) and my little 1.9 TDI is comfortable with 2000 lbs.

If you're serious about down sizing or having a smaller vehicle pull your sleds, the small gasoline V6's of today, EcoDiesel or mini Duromax would be good choices.

I am a believer in using the right tool for the job!! Lol, I was only spoofing with Marty, comparing my 81 hp (World Car) Lynx, to Barney's Harley, with a similar Hp, but the Harley likely had more torque.

I really did try pulling that little snow trailer with the Lynx. It would barely tow the trailer empty. Yes, mostly due to the tall gearing. Sled trailer now is a 7x23 V-nose, with 3800 lbs CCC. Yes, it takes a stout truck.

You need a diesel dually to tow that much trailer.

(Of course I'm kidding)

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

You bet Marty! I just wish I still had the bike. Gave it to my son a few years ago and don't ride anymore after almost 60 years of 2 wheeling.

Ok, I am over that shock.

Me thinks you need a dually for that size trailer.

Enjoy the snow :B

IDK Marty, back in 81, I traded my fuel hungry 454 Chevy truck for a 81 Mercury Lynx. I tried towing same size snowmobile trailer with the Lynx. I only had one sled on it, but was a no go. It was a 4-speed manual, and would give up as soon as I shifted into 4th.

It got great mileage, but not good for much else!! After 7k miles, traded for new small truck.

That is a nice looking X!

Yes we have snow. We had about 3" of sleet a week ago and then an inch of snow about 5 days ago. However some of that settled so there still isn't enough to go out! I'm thinking of taking a trip over to MI since they got all the lake effect snow!
