New Truck & Need New 5th Wheel Hitch

I've been pulling a 5th wheel since 2003 with my old '02 short bed Chevy Duramax 2500HD. When I traded my '02 in for a new '18 Chevy 2500HD Duramax short bed I left the old 16K Husky Roller/slider hitch with the trade in. Now I'm in the market for a new hitch to put into the new truck.

For those with a similar tow vehicle tell me what hitch you have and why you like it. Also any ballpark prices would be helpful.

I'm not so concerned about another roller hitch since I never used the roller feature. In fact, my '15 CC Silverback has recessed front corners making a roller/slider hitch even further unnecessary anyway.

It would be nice not to have rails in the bed of the truck, but I'm not sure what model hitch would afford me that feature. The new truck doesn't have those factory cutouts in the bed.

You can have them installed. Call your dealer and talk to them. They can either do it or tell you who does it for them. I'm having them installed by a custom welding/hitch shop in my area - just have to buy the parts from the dealer.
Experience without good judgment is worthless; good judgment without experience is still good judgment!

Final decision is the B&W Patriot 16K (maybe 18K). Having lived with rails in the bed for 15 years on the old truck I can live with the rails now. It's lighter when taking both sections off when necessary, a nice looking and functional hitch, and I can save about $500 +/-.

Thanks for the input.

When the hitch is out, you hardly notice the rails.

You won't be disappointed with either Patriot. 16K base is bolted, 18K is welded, both are solid. I think the 18K looks nicer without the bolts.

The B&W prices are going to be somewhat fixed by the manufacturer. While using the Turnover ball system, and Companion hitch is a good option for a clean bed, it does not come cheap. The ball mount system will be just over $450, plus the Companion. If you have need for the ball, (stock trailer, flatbed hauler, etc)you can make good use of both systems.

Enjoy that new truck!

Another vote for this setup. The turnoverball leaves a clean bed when the companion is removed from the truck. I've been using this setup since 2014 (I think) and absolutely love it.

Ford also has this option through Ford Accessories. I'm sure GM has an accessory option as well. If not wanting to go this route, and thinking of adding rails, the B&W Patriot in 16K, or 18K is a very user friendly, quality hitch, at a reasonable price.

Hopefully you have the puck system.

Bottom line anything with the B&W label will far exceed your expectations.
