NRA, BLM, NFS...Lack of Courtesy or Free Range Cattle?

So, dry camping on NPS/ NFS land, with no designated “ site”, but paid to “park.”

Maybe 10 campers around in the whole area. Sitting enjoying the peace, quiet, and beautiful sunset over the lake, and all of a sudden, 2 girls, ( mid 30’s ) who are parked maybe 200 yards away, walk through our area, around our private ( owned ) picnic table, and in front of our coach, maybe a foot away from the front of it, on the way to their area. Mind you, there are hundreds of yards of empty area around each side of us.

I stare, DH looks, nods, and they say Hi, and just continue walking. One returns me a nasty look, yes, I was giving them one, and they continue on.

We have had this happen before many times, usually from those who are new, and don’t know the general consideration “ rules. “ and in those circumstances, we have paid for a specific camp site. One of us has always said something, ie...
“ Can I help you? “

I got irritated for several reasons... Lack of courtesy is #1, but also, if they would have fallen, or something happened to them around our coach, in today’s sue happy society, we would be responsible financially. Also, one of the girls gives me the evil eye, after she walked through our area.

DH states, this is “ free range” and since the place we are parked is not a designated
“ site “ we are not responsible, and it’s just lack of courtesy.

So, which is it? Since we are paying, is this area “ ours “ or if something happened, would we be responsible?

What do you all think??

Any and all comments would be appreciated.

Just cook up a big pot of chittlins, and keep then simmering over the fire. Anybody comes by, be nice and offer them a plateful. If they accept, you might have new friends!!

I believe life is to short to worry about whether someone walks to close to the campsite. Next time just say, Good Afternoon or Good evening and let it go. Unless they are seen stealing why worry about what someone did or didn't do. Life is just to short to mad and angry.

It is hard to say without being there, from what the OP said.
I won't get out of shape if someone comes near my site, unless they are being obnoxious and so on.
Perhaps they wanted to check out a nice rig or the handsome gentleman sitting there.
When we RV we usually make several friends, unless I'm under the weather, in which case it is just my wife. A lot of new friends then stop by and we have supper and cards go antiquing together, fishing, shooting skeet, fishing etc.
Imagine if I had gritted my teeth at them when they came by, at first encounter.

When I finally let them go, they NEVER attempt coming back through our campsite. I've seen them start, and then turn, and cut through the next camp site .... many times. It's marvelous ... and it works!
That is just excellent!

When your camp is intruded, you might be very nice, but on guard. You just don't know where the crazies are.

Actually, when folks cut through, I have a tendency to kind of yell at them and say something like, "hey.. what-ya-doing... tell me about it". Then when they stat talking, I flip the conversation and start telling them my entire life story. I'm actually holding them up! This is marvelous when they are on their way to the bathhouse! By holding them up with a one-sided conversation now, and constantly saying, "but there's more... hang on a moment longer!..." ^^ This is great ^^ LOL :C

This is the type of "retaliation" I can get on board with. No nastiness, no potential injuries, no escalation of anger, etc. Just good old fashioned friendliness that stops folks from intruding.

Of course, you could end up with a talker who will end up spending your entire stay visiting and chatting... 🙂

Will never understand people who say/do nothing as this infraction is happening, then come on to a internet forum to complain about it. Inaction on your part implies consent.

If you don't have the courage to say something to the perpetrators, then your destined to put up with it - don't ya think? :@

Due to your lack of reading comprehension, I will look past your comment. As I stated, usually we would say something, but were unsure due to the dispersed camping.
I have received enough information to feel at ease about our liability in this situation. Thanks for your insightful reply though 🙂

Because your spot is obviously the best place to fish, or you wouldn't be there.

We don't do BLM type boomdocking camping, but have experienced in State Parks and such, many folks walking through our space. Sometimes its annoying, mostly it's not. It depends upon where we are parked. If we are parked on a high travel area, we can expect cut-through, of course. But most of the time we are not.

LIGHTEN UP!!
You paid to park not rent a space. You are not liable for anything unless you are mean enough to do something to cause injury to them.
Take a chill pill with a cool drink and try to enjoy camping.
