Keep having g problems over the years with insurance cover for storage out of state when breaking up a long trip. We have full time cover and I had thought this solved the problem. Using national general at the moment and they say they will not cover out of state.

Perhaps the problem is the "length" of time you want to store it out of state.

insurance companies will keep quiet and will tell you things to keep from paying you money in a claim. my brother paid a company money for storage insurance and when his unit got burgled he put in a claim and they denied it saying they don't insure storage. so My brother got a lawyer and sued them and they paid for the unit and the lawyer. they took his money so they had to pay him

Blame state insurance regulators for this. When a state decides that an RV "stored" in that state and covered by casualty insurance is an instate vehicle (regardless of registration and title) and it must now be covered under that state's specific insurance regulations, insurance companies have to follow that rule if they want to insure in that state. Often the states disguise the reason behind "consumer protection", but I suspect there's a bit of state rights flexing going on.

Is this an industry thing this year? After 11 years of the vehicles, truck & trailer, being stored in a state other than the state of the insurance rep, it is a problem this year.

We spend November to April in storage. The truck does not even move. Almost zero risk to insurance company. Indoor storage on private property. Can't get any better than that.

This renewal cycle they wanted to increase premium in a big way. After much back & forth we drastically reduced items of coverage while in storage that are totally unneeded. They will be reactivated when we go back on the road.

Bottom line, the insurance company should have stayed quiet & not tried to up the premium for coverage items nor needed in storage that we had payed for so many years.

Seems like there is a crackdown on people who have units registered outside of their states of residence. We don't have a state of residence which means that we don't fit in a convenient sized box.

I have a seasonal I keep out of state. I went down to a local insurance agent where the seasonal is at and bought insurance from him.
