Prodigy P2 Troubles

Hey guys, I got a weird one on my hands. I have a prodigy P2 brake controller, it works great when towing but, when not towing the display is going nuts. When I first start up the vehicle it shows "N.C" which is normal, and is supposed to go away after a few minutes with only a "." on the display. What is happening is it either stays on all the time or blinks "N.C" erratically (major distraction at night). Does not do this all the time but about 50% of the time when the trailer is not connected. I replaced to cable from the truck to back of the controller and get the same result.

When the trailer is connected everything works fine.

I tried tekonsha website for troubleshooting tips with not luck to my situation.

Any help would be appreciated. The controller is two years old, installed on a 2011 F150.

Thanks for you help.

My guess is a problem with the 7 way plug.
If you have a friend that has a P2 borrow it and see if you have the same problem. This will help determine if it is the controller or the truck.

I have the same issue from time to time. So far it seems related to moisture in the plug. Anyway I've narrowed it down to only occurring when we are having rain for days on end. Don't recall seeing it during dry weather. Not sure how to weatherproof the plug in yet.

As you say the brakes work flawlessly when the trailer is actually connected.

Those blue leds are a major distraction at night, wish they had a dimmer switch.

Sure sounds like you've got a loose connection or short somewhere, causing the p2 to think a trailer is being connected and disconnected.

You said you replaced the cable from the truck to the back of the controller... There's what, 3 or 4 wires? Power, Brake Input, Brake Output and Ground, right? Loose ground would be my first guess.

I have not seen this problem on my P2, so I don't have any more detailed suggestions.
