We're still camping every weekend, but we're doing it a fixed location where we have our trailer set-up and pay monthly. It's a fun RV park that caters to amateur country/western and gospel musicians and singers. Big party every weekend with lots of great barbecue, music that would rival NAshville and good fellowship (without alcohol). We have a large building that will seat 300 for a music show. We only fill it up once a year when we have our HeeHaw weekend show.
Our world is still intact without the long trips. Triple Creek RV park, near Woodville, Tyler County, Texas is down a 3 mile dirt road, hidden deep in the PIneywoods, and it's 12 miles from our home!

It seems to me you have to do the industry otherwise other companies are facing serious disadvantages and that is not fair to their investors. This country is all about fairness, at least according to a certain segment of its society, isn't it? Just to nationalize the big 5 you will need well over a trillion dollars. I know its chump change to some around here, but to me that is real money. Then there is the drillers, pipe line companies, independent retailers, the list goes on and on. If you didn't do it all, there would be lawsuits until Armageddon. Probably would need another two trillion to complete the job, I don't think that is within the realm of common sense, especially since it PRODUCES nothing. Because as I said, it is cash up front, no time payments. You are taking my property, and I want payment NOW. The AFLCIO, government employee's, teachers and some other unions might be willing to take payments, but individual investors are probably going to say GO SIT ON A ROCK AND TWIST. Why will they say that, you ask? Because government cannot be trusted to pay up. Just look at how they are handling Social Security. Cash talks, and that amount is just not available.
Actually, 460 billion is well within the capability of the govt's purchasing XOM. Nationalization may be distasteful, even "unamerican", but the kind of numbers you are talking about are certainly not outside the realm of feasibility.
This country is gradually liberalizing and morphing into a western european-type, socially-progressive society. Although we are shifting left more rapidly in the social/religious area, democratic socialism can't be far behind. The rugged individualism and laissez faire capitalism that built this country was a product of tough, proud, patriotic, God-fearing, hard working immigrant stock. They weathered every crisis and came out stronger than before. But, like the wimpy, whining, spoiled brats of a wealthy industrialist, we have sadly lost the fortitude, faith and patriotism of our fathers. We can't even fight a war anymore because we are afraid we might hurt somebody!
The terrorist scum that hide in the slums of Bagdad must be thanking Allah that they don't have to confront the Greatest Generation of proud, unflinching Americans that swept ashore on Normandy. Yamomoto's "sleeping giant" hasn't just gone back to sleep. He's dead!
