RV Tires

I just purchased new Michelin XRV tires for our class a motorhome. I was very displeased to learn the DOT date codes showed two of the six tires to be 98 weeks old. The six tires had four different date codes ranging from 3111 to 4912. The tires were purchased from a dealer located between I-40 and Pigeon Forge, TN. Michelin offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee Promise Plan for the first 30 days, but doesn't seem to count if your are unhappy about getting old tires. They assured me the tires are fine, but admitted they throw them out after three years. I will not make my next tire buying based on brand alone.

Seems to me that it is a problem with the retailer not the manufacturer. That's the people you should talk to about replacing the tires with newer ones if you are unhappy. Michelin makes great tires based on my experiences.

earlier this year we replaced the OEM tires on our daughter's Jayco Eagle TT with Maxxis tires and those on our Sunnybrook Titan 5er with Goodyear G614's .... yep, it was an expensive spring .... the tires were purchased from two different local shops ... in both cases, we stipulated at the time the tires were ordered that they must be less than 6 months old .... when we checked the tires, all 8 were 2 - 4 months old .... I believe that as a customer, if I have such concerns that it is my responsibility to make it known up front .... to me its kind of like buying something at the grocery story, getting home and finding that the freshness date on the item has expired .... that is something I should have checked prior to purchase .... hopefully the tires in the first post will provide many years/miles of good service

Would you really expect a manufacturer to warrantee age of product in a
DEALER's inventory? The dealer probably doesn't respect the first-in/first out inventory theory.
IMHO I think that is asking a bit much. Nothing to do with the
technical aspects of the product. This is an issue between the dealer and consumer.

Yeah, happen to me on two tires too as a newby. Just change those two about 2 years earlier than I should have had to.

Too bad you haven't been a member here very long as it is often discussed about the date codes on new tires and always stipulating to the tire dealer to only install tires that are less than 3 - 4 months old. I not only will stipulate the date codes of that age, but also that all six will have the same date code.

Wow...I'd be mad, too. I'm sure you're kicking yourself for not stipulating age or looking at the codes before they mounted them! But still...since these guys say they throw them out at three years, I think you have a legitimate beef.

You might try contacting Michelin directly about this.
