Not at all. After I block a number, the next time a call is received from that number, the phone gives a half ring, shuts off, and “caller blocked” appears on the screen.

No, the do-not-call list applies to legitimate call centers and telemarketers. Laws and regulations do not apply to thieves, scammers or anyone else that has no regard to the law.

The one time when the same number called right back I answered it and it was a gal who said she missed a call from me. I explained to her that my number just happened to be the one they spoofed for that call.

A buddy of mine once kept a scammer going about his PC for a half hour, only to tell him we was sitting on the couch and not rebooting etc, like he was asked. His best quote to the guy, “if you’re going to scam people you at least need to pronounce it right. Let’s say it together, ‘information’”.

We use NoMoRobo on our "landline" VOIP service, and the Call Control app on our Android phones, and rarely get any spam/scam calls any more. Call Control even blocks charity and political calls that are exempt from the Do Not Call rules.

For those of you with a landline, try NoMoRobo. It does work very well, it probably stops, with one ring, 90% of the spam calls. A few get through, but not anywhere near the numbers from before. It's free for a landline, but does cost a couple bucks for a cell phone.

Talking about Medicaid? I've been struggling with issues because my 95 year old, dementia diagnosed mother had so much going on this last year (yes, one year), between attempting to get her on Medicaid, calls from the Nursing Home, and a new twist, ... Hospice care, I get phone calls all the time. And because of the complexity of my mothers care, I felt I had to take the calls, knowing there was (is) a real possibility they are scammers. I finally quit answering completely and let it all go to voice mail. The scammer recordings never make it to voicemail. The important stuff does. I've instructed everyone on my mother's care list to leave a message and I'd call them back immediately. Fortunately, everyone completely understands. My world is much simpler now. I started using the block feature on my phone for those calls now, and I probably have a couple hundred phone numbers blocked now.

I miss the days when I had a home phone number sometimes. My son has the same name as me, and often around dinner time the phone would ring and my wife would answer. Caller would ask to speak with me, terribly mispronouncing my name, and we would hand the phone to my then 5 year old son, and continue with our dinner. Little Mikey used to love to talk on the phone.

Yes, Do Not Call is a joke. I get multiple calls every day on our land line and my cell phone. I just don't answer unknown numbers.

Just so you know.
Yesterday I was expecting a call from someone I'd never gotten a call from before so I answered all incoming calls (Well till that one then I went back to Reject) Even if T-mobile said "Scam Likely".

One call they ask if I was me. (They had my name) then said they were from Medicare.. I replied "That's interesting The phone says "Scam Likely" and they hung up.

The ones I get with great news on winning or inheriting money are my favorites. I tell them I dont want it and to give it to a local Catholic Church.

We get at least 6 scam calls a day. We no longer answer our land line. Do not call is absolutely worthless! Before you say it, I’d love to drop the land line, but my wife insists on having it.

I once kept a scammer (microsttelling me my computer is going to crash) on the line for 40 minutes. It was actually quite entertaining!

I also rarely answer them. And when I do, I rarely listen long enough to hear more than three or four words.

Be careful... it can backfire.

I was getting a call at least three times a week from "my credit card company". They never named it. My payment record was spotless and I qualified for zero credit. Press one and wait for an operator.
I pressed one and told the operator to F******.

Now I get two calls a day.... and a wife who likes to remind me "told you so"
