Sensitive Issue

Don't know if this issue has ever been addressed before. However, here goes.

In my way of thinking to be out there in the country day and night inside an RV without a means of protection from the criminal element is pure stupidity. Your RV is your home away from home and should be treated the same way as your permanent home. I know that there are a myriad of conflicting state laws including laws for concealed carry. Some states, like my state of Florida, a weapon for protection is almost required by the government. In New York, not so much.

So, what do most of you people do? Do you carry a weapon in the RV anyway and hope for the best? Do you have a concealed weapon's permit which is reciprocal in many states but not all? Do you carry a shotgun or rifle, which I believe is allowed in all states? Or, how about a high powered pellet gun which I believe is legal in all states? I would imagine that this inquiry is applicable for traveling to Canada, too. :h

An interesting view from the perspective of a Canadian ๐Ÿ˜‰ ... the idea of carrying a firearm of any type while camping, or any other time for that matter, wouldn't even cross my mind. You likely wouldn't agree but unfortunately yours may be a statement on the sad state of affairs in the US as viewed by those of us living outside your borders. Sometimes you just gotta be outside the forest to see what's going on inside it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Carrying a loaded shotgun at all times..in the RV? Or strapped at all times while driving the RV? Of course..why didn't I think of that.

I have traveled in 18 states and have called the state police in all of them asking if I could carry a gun. They said I must have a pistol permit in the ones that allowed it. Everyone of them said the same thing. They all said that a shot gun is allowed and it is looked at like my motor home is my residence. I carry a 12ga Defender in a locked case in the bedroom and the shells in the other end of the coach. That's what they want. Mine is loaded at all times. Every state ask me as a courtesy should i get pulled over to let the trooper know about the shot gun as soon as he pulls me over and everything will be fine.

Use a weapon to promote your political views and the government will be glad to make your wish come true. Just ask Randy Weaver's wife, David Koresh, those nut jobs who took over that Oregon Wildlife sanctuary, Tim McVay, Ted Kaczynski etc. etc. etc.

Nobody, I mean nobody is advocating "taking your gun away" or eliminate your right to have one. Where in the world did you get this idea? Your reply is an obvious political one, so let's stick to the OP's question and keep the politics to other forums.

I too have never felt the need to take one of my guns along with us when traveling and I've been doing this for many, many years. However, I got to admit that I stay in rv parks/resorts and never boon dock or campgrounds. If I did, I would probably take my 357 along with us.....but that's not gonna happen.

Guns is one of my long-time hobbies. Guns are interesting, and fun. I got my first gun when I was 12. I support NRA, and officers of the law. I always carry at least two handguns in the motorhome (his and hers). I love this country.
Some people take Aleve PM, some people sleep with a gun under their pillow. I do both.

Your RV is a cardboard box surrounded by other cardboard boxes. Any discharge of any type of gun will travel a good distance.
The scariest situation is a paranoid person with a gun.

I have lots of guns but have never found a need to carry one in the RV. Exactly how many people did you feel that you were going to have to shoot in the last ten years???

I would love to travel with firearms while in the US but unfortunately the restrictive laws enforced at the US border prohibit Canadians, and all other foreign nationals, from bringing a weapons into your country, except under very limited circumstances. {Hunting, shooting competitions or a LEO on business)

I can't carry while there, even if I purchase the gun in the US.

I respect your laws and abide by them while I am a guest of yours.

I just have to rely on the hope that my camping neighbor is prepared to render assistance in the form of deadly force if I need some help.

By the way, the laws controlling the importation of firearms when crossing the border between Canada and the US are nearly identical regardless if your headed south or north.

I'm a retired police officer and can carry anywhere in the U.S., but I don't. The first thing you learn as a new cop......if you're off duty with your family, know where the phone is and be a good witness!

With that said, this discussion always gets a little heated about carrying a firearm. I think what gets confusing is that many start talking about "carrying" versus what an OP may be asking about, having a firearm in their coach for protection......big difference.

Before you buy any gun, you need to ask yourself if you could take the life of another in self defense. If you're not sure, you'll just be providing a new gun to a crook. Secondly, you need to be comfortable and confident with how to use it, not just buy it and never practice.

The rules are substantially different if you have a short .22 rifle or a short barreled shotgun secreted in your RV and only used for an intrusion INTO the RV.

Lastly, for those who think the world is a happy and friendly place, I can tell you after working 35 years in Los Angeles County, there are some real animals out there who have NO concern for human life.
