Seriously... who calls it glamping?

Glamping??? As a woman I know some would think that I would find this new terminology "cute". Seriously every time I read the word glamping... glamper, I want to punch someone in the face. That is the DUMBEST, dorkiest, just down right most awful term for camping that anyone has ever come up with. I just had to post to find out why? Why would anyone refer to it as that? Who invented the term? Does it make you cringe as much as it make me cringe? Sorry, had to vent.

For the most part I like those clever new words.

For what it's worth I agree with you. These days silly little words have to be invented for everything. Glamping, Staycation, Affluenza, Frenemy, Bromance...that's just off the top of my head. People trying to be cute I guess?

OK, now that I've read the responses and sounds like my question got answered,I guess I'm OK with the term. "Glamorous Camping!" And if someone wants to hang a chandelier inside their pup tent, I suppose that's OK. Reminds me of the time I saw someone take a window air conditioner and set it in a hole cut out on the side of their tent!

Indeed...and I hope that the cabin fever doesn't make me want to head to a $1500.00 a night camping spot. I have been kinda bored.

Im just curious, How can you object to a term when you dont know what it means?

I know what it means... for some reason it just seems so condescending to those of us who camp and have loved camping for so many generations. besides it was a boring Sunday, so I thought I would take a poll.

I am an avid backpacker that is more comfortable in the wilderness than in the city. My wife tent camped with me once! I call it glamping. When I go from a backpacking tent to a class A with two bathrooms, 3 tv's and all the creature comforts of home.

Saw a posting here awhile back from someone wanting to meet up with other glampers. Didn't know what it meant, so figured I wasn't one of them. Who knew.

Glamping. Isn't that where you go in your tag axel 45' $500,000 plus class A that never has a spot of dust on it? Sites are usually concrete & treeless, so that you can get a good satelite signal to watch your 42" outdoor TV?:) Your toad is most likely colour keyed with the coach & you wear coach manufacturers clothing.

When you are in transit from one luxury resort to another you can be found overnighting at Walmart. It is not that you are too cheap to stay at regular CG. At 65' LOA you are too big to go anywhere else.:h

It is a weird word but it doesn't bother me one bit.

I rarely hear anyone refer to any camping as glamping anyway.

The term "glamping" has been around for a couple of years in Central Oregon , Sisters and Bend in particular .
I don't know where the term originated but two Central Oregon gals bought a dozen old trailers and fixed them up for a rental business .
They painted them " women's colors " on the exteriors and started a rental business . These were 16 foot single axle jobs built in the 1960's , 1970's models .
These gals got a lot of press in the local media .
Part of this is helped because Sisters Oregon is a quilting mecca and the interiors of these trailers had quilter style drapes and bed covers .
As some know , there are women's camping forums, blogs, and clubs.
Nothing wrong with glamping .
These gals are pretty creative and style is higher priority than brute practicality than men enjoy .
