spray lube on hitch????

I have another question that has probably been beat to death but I can't get anythign to come up in my searches.

Is it okay to use a dry silicone spray lube for my hitch ball and WD components? I've been using actual grease applied with a gun and then rubbed all over. Seems like overkill if I can just give her a quick spritz with some silicone spray. ???

I just wear old clothes ๐Ÿ˜‰ And thanks for all the responses guys. As always, I end up where I started, so in this case, I think I'm gonna keep using my handy lithium grease / grease gun. Seems like the best protection for my hitch. I am NOT going to take my dealer's service guys advice to just carry a bottle of wd40 around with you everywhere. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Grease on the pants... been there before. When it happens and it will, use Lestoil to get it out. Funny story on how we discovered Lestoil. My wife washed her jacket with lipstick in the pocket. Her light blue jacket came out with bright red strips. Lestoil took care of the red strips.

The Reese ball lube used to be available at Walmart but I have not seen it lately. It does turn black however and will get on the clothes just like the other stuff. I had a jar that has lasted for about 6 years.
Plain grease worked just as well.

This reminds me of a buddy who refused to tow without it:

After working on a racecar to get it ready all day, we start loading up to go. All of a sudden, my buddy stops the loading procedure and yells into the quiet night: "honey! Where's my ball lube?!?!?!"

haha...funny story!!! That looks like a good product....I assume it doesn't turn black and ruin clothes???? Can that be bought off a shelf somewhere???? Wally world???

ALL hitch manufacturers that I am aware of (except Andersen) recommend using some type of grease or lube on the ball and where the WD bars are connected to the hitch head.

Same here. No need to put anything on them. I've never worn anything out in MILES of towing.

Are we talking just the ball or the spring bars as well? I can't imagine not putting anything on the bars. Manufacturer's reccomendation.......?????? Seems to me that's a LOT of metal-on-metal movement to not use a lube.

Motorcycle chain wax works well too. Doesn't attract much dirt and doesn't wipe off easily onto clothing.

X2, sprays on, dries to a waxy paste and when it heats up it is somewhat liquid. Rarely comes off.

This stuff is subjected to extreme pressures on chain driven motorcycles and works great. Depending on type can be had for $5-20.

Try using Slip Plate. Spray on and dries. I use it on all the metal to metal sliding surfaces on my Pullrite Superglide hitch.

They don't make slip plates for WD hitches.

Slip Plate, it's a kind of paint, with graphite impregnated so that it is slippery.

I painted up an old lawn mower deck that had problems with grass clumping with the stuff once. It helped.

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.
