Towing

I have a 2018 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 liter Hemi with a tow rating of 15,563 lbs. My question is I am looking at a 5th wheel that has a gross weight of 15,500 and the dry weight is 13,469. Would this be something I can tow? Also too this 5ver has a hitch weight of 2184

It’s the same axle. 11.5” AAM which I think itself is rated for about 11k lbs. The bags/timbrens address the springs which is the only difference. I’m pretty sure GM’s HD trucks use this axle as well.

Yes by 500 lbs on the rear axle, unless OP springs for airbags or timbrens. You are correct that the gas engine is marginal.

I wouldn't pull that much with a 2500 truck. You will most likely be over GVWR & RAWR once the trailer is loaded. A SRW 3500 would do better with the weight. The 6.4 Hemi would likely do ok on flat ground and at lower altitude. But for any real grades the diesels will way to go. I like having more truck than needed, makes for a easy tow no matter what.

It would be a very slow tow at times with the gas engine and the mileage would be awful but I don't see the weight being a huge issue as long as the truck has 18" or 20" tires to get the 6500 lb RAWR. Add bags/timbrens and it should be good up to the 3500's 7000 lb RAWR (not on paper, but real world). The fact that OP lives back east would help in terms of the types of grades and elevation he would typically experience. Just my two cents.

Agreed with the answer. One followup question you may have is: How much can/should you plan to tow with listed vehicle? If you have 4.10 axle, I'd shoot for 10k dry max.
