Would You "Downgrade" To A Tent?

Myself, like I'm sure many others here grew up tent camping. We did it about every year from about 1985-1993. It was our parents and 3 kids, myself included.

In September of 2011 our parents bought a hybrid camper and I bought a tent which I used about 3 times last summer. My parents ended up upgrading to a much larger TT and my brother also dove in to get a bunkhouse TT. I really don't intend to use my tent anymore since my parents basically give me free reign to use their TT when I want.

Anyway, 90% of the time we camp at a local beach CG with full hookups and great views of the ocean. Whenever we have to exit the campground we have to drive past the tent section with no views and only a water hookup. We always think to ourselves that we will never be tent campers again. This is especially true on a hot, sticky night or when it's raining.

I hope it doesn't seem that I'm putting tenters down, but I just know that more then likely I won't be one again. So, does anyone that has an RV still tent it or has anyone "downgraded" to a tent?

I worked long and hard, and waited a long time, in order to travel in a nice big comfortable diesel pusher. There's nothing like it, and it sure spoiled me.
Therefore, NO!

I would go back to tent camping if anything changes. right now I am in love with my 5ver and our way of rving. but there will be times I know I will be tent camping in the future. some barrier islands only allow tent camping on the beach and I definitely intend to do it.

mostly my future will be an RV. I won't go back to tent camping on a regular basis.

I like my rv and the vacations/lifestyle. tent camping has its place for my future but in smaller terms.

I don't sleep on the ground anymore. Too hard to get up. And cots aren't comfortable either. So - no more tents, most likely, except in a dire emergency. (We do still have one, just in case.)

I'm not sure I like the term UPGRADED or DOWNGRADED TO something...

My finest times was tent camping in the high country around the Phoenix area...

The past five years we have been doing both Tent Camping and Tent Trailer camping. It is amazing how close these two are.. We use almost the same appliances and utilities... My 5000BTU portable house window unit runs just fine in the second tent door sitting on a wooden pallet... Watch HDTV every night in either unit.

We actually do almost the same thing in the tent or the off-road POPUP.

My last tent was olive drab some 50 years ago. Never again.

If I fell on hard times, or had my TT damaged or lost in a flood-I would very much use a tent. When I go camping, the 'Tenters' look as if they are having at least as much fun as we are!

I'd "downgrade" to a tent in a heart beat under the right circumstances. You can't backpack an RV into the wilderness.
