Hot humid camping

We are trying to decide if we are going to go camping this weekend. I am the type of person that nothing gets in the way of my camping. However the forecast for this weekend is hot humid with the high of 98 degrees. The pool at the campground we are going to is in the sun so I don't see that has refreshing. A campfire isn't gonna be fun to sit around in the heat. Even cooking sounds like a chore in the heat. The only place for our family of 5 to get relief would be our air conditioned camper but we are going with another family. That wouldn't make for a good time.

So I come here to get suggestions on how to have fun camping in the humid heat. Can we have a good time? What are your suggestions or do you think we should just stay home?

5 weeks only? More like 2 months for us. That's what the heater and campfire is for! :B

All local parks are closed up tight last weekend in September. It tends to freeze shortly after. Then we have a two week window to get our trailer into storage. Not much choice here.

I second that! Bring on the fans, the spray bottles and the beer! Fill a kiddie pool with ice water for your feet, and pull up some lawnchairs.

Down here in Florida we camp hot and humid 8 months out of the year. We pick places with lots of shade and good water for swimming, which we have in abundance.

Get a bucket with cool water and put your feet in it. Its amazing how just keeping your feet cool can cool the whole body.

Squirt guns instead of balloons as the kids never want to pick up the broken balloon parts, which is a must!

Take the fans outside. Wet towel around the neck. Cold drinks.

Have fun!

Just an idea for you.
Pick you up a MistyMate Cool Camper6.

The totally portable Cool Camperโ„ข 6 outdoor misting system provides a cool environment from the heat wherever you need it. No batteries required! Complete kit - nothing else to buy!

With a fan blowing it works good.

We purchased one at Walmart, not sure of the brand. It's great and works even if it's humid. It also keeps the bugs away since they don't fly very well in the mist.

Hmm... If you were tenting I could see a concern. You have RVs. You have A/C and cold drinks, and ice cream. Yum! Can the kids play board games inside? The pool is in the sun? Go figure. And it will still cool you off and be fun for the kids. Just make sure to use sun screen! Are there museums or other indoor attractions within a reasonable driving distance? We've even gone the movies on hot days. Fires are great but you can still and have fun. Due to fire bans we've had plenty of camping trips "sans fire". Put a few coals in the fire pit to roast marshmallows. Otherwise just enjoy the conversation and the cold drinks.

Don't cancel! Get creative. It might be even more fun for everyone because you'll end up doing things you might not normally do.

Hot and humid, you say? LOL... Down in Florida, the tops of my socks haven't been dry since early May and it doesn't get any better until Oct. Go... stay hydrated and enjoy the time you, your family and friends have together.

We do an annual camping trip Labor Day wkend with family and friends and since the sites are already reserved and paid for, we're going. Who knew when we reserved last year that we'd have a heat wave this year! There have been years where it's been cold too.

I may suggest water balloon fights for all the little kids. There's also a lake with a decent swimming beach and shade so I'm sure the kids will have a great time. But true, the heat and humidity bothers the adults more than the kids!

Sitting around the camp with a couple of those 22-inch box fans do pretty good...

Have done a many of them hot humid trips that only North Texas can muster up...

the kids love water balloon fights...

The mornings is the best time... Coffee is good no mater what the weather does hehe...

Generally the kids don't notice any of that - only the grown-ups...
