Looking to take my 3 granddaughters to Washington DC for a 3-4 days then on to Ocean City, Maryland. Need some good suggestions for campgrounds near DC, with transportation to the capital.

We've stayed at Lake Fairfax Park, Reston, VA (they are currently "rebuilding" the place so I have no idea what it's like right now) and also at Bull Run Regional Park, Centreville, VA. Both have small water parks (my 7 & 9 yr old boys liked them - if they get wet, they're happy!). Both are near Metro stations and Bull Run is close to the National Air and Space Museum which is REALLY cool ... one of the Space Shuttles is there!

We have stayed at Cherry Hill twice, once in March and once in June. Very nice park and very convenient to see all of the sights. Felt like the people there were very nice and park was clean with good amenities. Would not hesitate to go back again.

Good advice on the zoo. That method is even how my kids' public school does it. School bus drops kids off at the top and picks them up at the bottom... Except this year, they couldn't pick them up at the bottom, and we had to walk back up the hill to board the bus. At the end of the day, with exhausted kids. NOT FUN!

We were at Cherry Hill last April. They temps hit 90 for 2 days so we really enjoyed their pools. One is heated. The tours from the campground are great and you have easy access to the metro.

Plus Cherry Hill is close to interstate and has minimal groceries and camping supplies, so you don't have to head up the road if you forgot something.

Then they have 2 pools and outdoor movies in the summer. Our DGD loved it there when we had her with us one summer.

We always stay at Cherry Hill since it's got the bus to the train that'll take you right to the Mall. Can't do better.

Lots of similar requests - Cherry Hill CG is one of the most common and they list it as the "closest" ... We stayed here a few years ago and had a good time with transportation available into Washington.

There is a highway near by, but honestly we didn't hear/pay much attention to the noise if there was any. Good facilities and clean.

Cherry Hill in College Park Maryland. Bus comes right to the CG and takes you to the metro station for the trip to the Mall in DC. All sorts of amenities in this large gated park.
