Millie has passed...

Sadly our beloved Millie has passed.

She loved camping even more than we did. She could always be found quietly enjoying our site from her bed. Here she is 7 years ago at one of her favorite CG's, Patagonia Lake SP:

To all who knew and obviously loved our dear Millie it is with indescribable sadness we must share her passing. As her 11th birthday approached she began to struggle. Losing weight and in the end unable to keep anything down we finally faced the tragic reality that she was dying. She showed no signs of pain through her last days and even managed a short walk on Thursday, the highlight of each and every day of her life with us.

Jeanne stayed up with her Thursday night but by Friday morning we both knew it was time for her to leave us. We called our Vet and he came to our home, her home, at 11 Friday morning to help her over the Rainbow bridge. She died peacefully in our arms, with dignity and unconditional love.

Without question she was the gentlest, sweetest dog on earth and It was our privilege to share her life for more than 8 years. I never once heard her growl or show the slightest hostility toward man or beast. She didn't bark, play or chew things but she understood more about retirement than anyone in Arizona. The simple pleasures of a belly rub or her daily walks always sustained her.

The indescribable pain of her passing will fade but never the beautiful memories of her that we will always treasure. Truly she is now in a better place where her gentle spirit will live on forever.

Our sincerest thanks to one and all for your many kind condolences, they mean more to us than you can ever know.

Steve and Jeanne

OP here, I would like to sincerely thank all of you who took the time to share your condolences. Your outpouring of support at this very difficult time meant more to us than you will ever know.

It will be a while before we can even talk about Millie without the tears... like now, sigh. In time the great memories will begin to replace the pain and we will probably move on to another dog in our lives.

Hopefully we will get to meet, greet and pet a lot of wonderful dogs in our upcoming travels.

Thanks again,

Steve and Jeanne

I am so truly sorry for your loss. I had to help our precious Chubby over the bridge just over a year ago and the pain is as fresh as it was that day. She was a beautiful lady and your tribute was just as beautiful.

So very sorry for your loss. My vet says the greatest thing we can do for our pets is to ease their passing to ease their pain. She knew she was loved.

We, like you and others, lost our last Daschund/Chihuahua mix in December 2014. We felt the void left by her, but after more than a year we decided to rescue a dog during our Baja, Mexico caravan trip.

After visiting several online rescue facilities in Cabo San Lucas and La Paz we were giving up hope. Then a wonderful lady and her husband were mountain biking in the desert one afternoon and found a puppy with a garbage sack tied around her neck. Already owning two dogs they were unable to keep her. Our wagonmaster knew of our desire to rescue a puppy and told her about us.

After removing over 50 ticks and fleas, 3 flea shampoo baths and a lot of other needed things to do to own another, we had our little black and white energy bundle!

The next day in Todos Santos we visited a vet, got her vaccinated and dewormed, bought a bag of puppy food and all was good. The vet, Dr. Martinez, listed her breed as "Mexican Mixup".

Then the chore of choosing a name. Finally 'Miracle de Baja' (Baja for short) was chosen. I am happy to report she is happy, healthy and a true joy to have.

Will she ever replace Clyde? Absolutely not! He was a special pet who filled our days with happiness, just like your dear Millie did. We know God chose us to have our hearts rescued by Baja.

Hoping your memories of Millie will never fade, your pain of the loss will be overshadowed by those memories, and you will find another fur pal in the future.

What a wonderful story. Thanks for sharing.
