I hope Dr Doug can weigh in on this. Will current flea and tick treatments deter this monster?

We tried the Liquid application down the back....our Border Collie/Lab went NUTS like it was burning.
She did everything to try and rub it off

Felt so bad...trying to protect her and ended up causing her pain/discomfort.

Gave her a long soapy bath and threw the rest of treatments away.
Switched to NexGard chewable.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

A while back, our vet recommended that for Inga. Unfortunately, she was one of those dogs that it does not agree with. The first time we put it on her, she went nutso with the itching or burning, whatever it was.:E Our vet said it affects a small percentage of dogs that way. Anyway, we have stayed with our old standby, Frontline Plus. It has always worked well for us over many years and dogs.

There may be some regional differences as flea/tick populations can develop resistance to one or more products and that can be reflected in regional variation on efficacy. I'd check with your local vet for recommendations.

I would have been a lot more aggressive at killing the ticks in the paddock with that poor lone pet sheep (sheep are social); I may get the chance to do just that since this tick has now been found in MD in the county just to our west.

I'll have to tell our arboviral epidemiologist. She loves ticks. And of course it is an import and spreads like wildfire. So far, no disease associated IN THE US, but it carries all kinds of nasty human diseases in other countries.

I've found no information indicating that this particular species of tick has any resistance to regular treatments currently being used.
