When our son was real little, he decided that bees were the first stage of birds.
I suppose that made as much sense as caterpillars morphing into butterflies. 🙂

WE get some honeybees occasionally at our feeders but most of the time the 'dominant' male hummer chases them away

Heck......he even tries to chase me off the porch.
Been eye to eye with him on occasions.
Couple of more seconds and he could have called my bluff......that long thin beak looks ominous!

To offer a serious comment on a fun post.
When bees took over our hummingbird feeder, I went on line and found a suggestion to change our sugar to water ratio from 1:4 to 1:6.
It actually works! The birds still like it, but the bees lost interest.

Put a thin coat of Vaseline on the flower buds. My buds are larger than yours and the vaseline works.

I just took our hummingbird feeder down yesterday. The hummers were still using it, but we could not live with the hundreds of wasps we were getting.
Sitting out on our patio with a drink or any food was impossible. Very annoying that we cannot enjoy the birds, but they will be migrating soon I suspect.
