Update on BenBen- still has more time in him

For those who followed BenBen's journey through chemo I want you to know he is doing very well. Sleeps a lot like and old dog does. He trots around and sometimes runs since he is back on his rimadyl. I am thrilled that he is alive and happy still. This started in July.

I have been away from the forum for awhile and was so sorry to see the news about BenBen. You have had wonderful memories with him but somehow they always seem to come to an end too soon. May your remaining time together be filled with peace and love.

I don't know if I can put this adequately in words, but sometimes it's easier when you know there's a close-by "end date"? I had been putting off my Aussie's last trip, (he was thin, but otherwise fairly happy) until something must have gone south in his hip and he needed my assistance to stand up squarely to eat. I made the appointment - then dedicated myself to making sure he had a delightful couple of days. It doesn't lessen the heartache - maybe it just makes you go forward in a robot-like manner.

At any rate, I'm so sorry things didn't work out better.

I am sorry your extra time is coming to and end....but glad that he did so well for so long.

I know you will take these last days to spend every minute you can with him.

yes, Sher, he is on prednisone, nausea medication, and a liver support med. Don't remember the names. Also we are giving 200 cc of fluid sub q twice a day. He is pretty comfortable most of the time. tonight he ate almost a whole can of dog food. He followed from room to room and laid down on blankets close to us.

Will not let him suffer in any way. Have sedative (ace) if need be. Vet is available by cell phone if needed. We will not put him through chemo at this point. He will get an exam and blood work again on Monday. We knew this would happen, but it seemed to happen quickly. He has had over 12 good years of many happy times.

Just a quick question....when my old cat JJ had horrible liver numbers no one was sure he would make it.
He was given a antibiotic shot that I can't remember the name of it but was good for ten days to two weeks.
He also got a steroid injection that was a similar period of time.
Is BenBen getting anything right now?
JJ did get better, we have had to repeat it a couple of times and he's going to celebrate his 19th birthday in August.

I am so very sorry to hear this, my heart breaks for you and BenBen.
He has certainly fought the battle but unfortunately it usually is a losing one.
You got time you thought you might not get and I'm so happy you did.
But now my eyes are leaking a little to much so I'll just say you are both in my prayers.

Sorry Barb. I wish the chemo for this disease gave more than 6-9 months of remission. You are making tough decisions.

So sorry, Barb. I was glad to learn he was feeling better, but now this is a setback that's so hard to take. You have given him the love and care he needs, and as painful as it will be, your final act of love will be to let him go. Bless you and your family - all of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Barb so sorry to hear this. I know the rollor coaster of emotions. The only way to look at it is all the time you gave him that he would not have had. When I took Mikko to K-state for his leg I could not help but think of all the trips with Strider for his chemo.

I spoke too soon. He was doing so well and I had hopes. Friday took him to vet and blood work is bad. We will be letting letting him go when he appears uncomfortable. Will not do chemo again as it is his liver now.
